A move may be in the works, folks, and I don't know anything about Louisiana.

I will be working as an attorney either in private practice handling upstream oil and gas work or at an exploration and production company. All things being equal, I'd prefer to avoid living in some soulless suburb. Please share the names of any nice, safe cities with lively walkable historic districts/downtowns and oilpatch law jobs. The combination may be more difficult to come by than I imagine.

Have you been admitted to the Louisiana Bar yet Napoleonic Code (Roman Civil Code) is in use. Lafayette is our oil center with Covington and Houma with Thibodaux running as runners up to the desires you wish.

Oil and Gas Law in Louisiana is very specialised with Title 30 and case law and the Mineral Code.

Feel free to PM me.

Try Lafayette over Baton Rouge or New Orleans for your requirements.
Big enough (100K+), college town with the extras that go with that. Generally safe (esp compared to BR and NO). Plenty of soulless suburbs but for a bit extra one can live closer to the center or to campus in nice older, less soulless areas (e.g. Girard Park, West/East Bayou Parkway, etc). Avoid River Ranch - expensive, faux and snobby!
Old city center now full of art galleries and lawyers' offices. Downtown Live runs thru part of the year which is good with live music. At night the downtown bars can get rowdy. Lots of festivals throughout the year.

Very politically conservative (I guess that's okay for most lawyers!), one reason I'm looking to move to New England!!

Good luck
