My family and I are going to be relocating to New Iberia due to my job. I would like some input on good areas to raise a family. We currently live in Long Beach MS. We were looking at the New Iberia area or Lafayette area. My oldest son is gonna be entering kindergarten next fall. If anyone out there has some suggestions we would greatly appreciate it.

Lafayette's school system is better by a large margin.

Many parts of NI look a tad seedy and run down - I'd opt for Lafayette any time. The commute is not too far.

Yes - I like Abbeville. A nice small town.
Don't know anything about the schools, though.

Default Limited apartments

My family and I are looking for an apartment, I should have clarified that. One we like (online at least) is abbeville, but another post on here said it has a high poverty and crime rate, all the other ones seem to be in Lafayette, but aren't as nice. Can't find any in the broussard area.

What is the local apartment guide you guys have over there. You know the free book outside of gas stations and what not?

Thanks for the help everyone!

Hi -
I' ve checked out some crime rates for both Lafayette and Abbeville and cannot see that they are very different at all.
I'd definitely keep Abbeville on your list.

its quickquarter

you might find duplexes better.... a few townhouses, condos, apartments
Lafayette - try other side of Pinkhook (street name) area thats not by hwy 90/ Evangeline thwy mapquest & look around

broussard, youngsville, breaux bridge, new iberia is alright schools
delcambre, abbeville, erath, maurice (floods often in Vermillion Parishes)

Ever since Katrina, crime is on the rise ( all louisiana towns), along with less work. its expected anytime you have a growth in population.
