Oakdale is a small, fairly rural town of about 8,000 people experiencing much economic growth. I don't know much specific about Oakdale but I know that there are some nice neighborhoods and some not-so-nice neighborhoods. Oakdale is about 45 minutes from the much larger Alexandria. Alexandria has about 50,000 people and also has a vibrant economy. A number of new housing developments are under construction in Alexandria, predominately on the west side. Most of the new houses are somewhat expensive. Like Oakdale, Alexandria has both good and bad areas. Clarify what it is that you are looking for. The apartment complexes that I would most recommend in Alex. are Beau Terre, Nottingham Park, Rosewood, and Magnolia Trace (a brand-new complex on a man-made lake).
