I was issued a speeding ticket yesterday. I was traveling on I-49 and it was between exits 25 and 27. I was clocked doing 77 in a 70. I don't deny that I was speeding. I have traveled that area quite frequently for the past 15 years and normally set my cruise at 75 and have never been pulled over or ticketed. The ticket is $165.00 and I was clocked at going 7 miles over the speed limit. I know I was speeding but that seems a bit steep.

I would imagine it is like a lot of other states - a base fee of $130 or so just for the violation, and $X per mile over the speed limit.

Afraid of Port Barre
Yes in Port Barre Louisiana they are desperate for your money so the deputies will stand in the rain on a cold day and hold out their radars trying to catch unsusptecting people. Sunday I passed thru Port Barre and the police were out everywhere. I did not get a ticket but had planned about that time to stop for gas and food. But with policemen standing in the rain with their radars out it seemed kinda eerie, so I stayed in my car and continued another hour to Alexandria to refuel and eat. Wouldn't spend my money in a place like that........

The fine for 10 mph over the limit is $165.00!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes i was speeding because i was in the dead zone of two semi-trucks and a truck came up on my rear and was tailgating. Where i come from you can break any law in the interest of saftey.
Washington is right next to Layafette La

Actually, when trucks (or anyone else) tail gates me I slow down to encourage them to go around me. I do not see how speeding up to 80 miles per hour with a semi truck on your butt would be considered doing something in the interest of safety. If you had to slam on your brakes in a hurry, you'd be toast.
Driving the speed limit is the best thing you can do. That way you know you are not going to get a ticket. There is no such thing as a speed trap.

Got me too!
Same as the others -- mile marker 25 on I-49. 77 in a 70 and $165. Cruise control kicked in at the top of the hill, normally I hit the brake to stop it -- this time I didn't so the acceleration on the down side popped me over the limit. The trooper was half way down the hill haulin' in the revenue. My first speeding ticket -- ever!! I'm 58 -- Live and learn.
Another bad area is I-20 east of Baton Rouge -- 60 mph speed limit for several miles and PLENTY of cops

Mile 25 is about where Washington is. You have an interstate overpass that curves around and goes down a slight decline. Cops love to stake out at the bottom of the "hill" and nail people.

You mean I-12 ? They've had quite a few nasty wrecks involving big rigs there, and as a result, they're pretty aggressive with speed limit enforcement.

They say the road to Grand Isle is a revenue producer too.
I got a cupon from the well done "officer" in Saint Landry parish too. Then I found out what a hot spot it is. Really desperate lice must live there. I received a 77 in a 70. A friend received a similar ticket from the same overcooked insect at the same spot north bound on I 49 just over a rise. You top the rise and you are had.
I will NEVER travel through that parish again no mater where I go. It's vacation money that won't be spent there, AND THAT"S A FACT JACK!

I never got a ticket on I-49, despite the fact that I may have logged 250,000 miles of driving between Opelousas and Shreveport over the years. As a traveling salesman driving in TX, LA, AR, MS & TN, I'd pretty much learned where most of the places where police checking your speed were. Over 40 years, I guess I might have gotten maybe 6 tickets — mostly in areas that were new or unfamiliar to me — but I hadn't had a ticket in the last 20 years prior to my retirement.
It's interesting that everyone above mentions that they were cited at 77 MPH. That sounds to me like there must be a price increase at that point. Since this appears to be a popular spot for ticket-writing, maybe it would behoove drivers to go BELOW the speed limit. That might help, although it sounds to me as if some chicanery is going on here.
And, speaking of chicanery, maybe Ludowici, GA had the most famous speed trap in the USA 30 - 40 years ago. In the 1960s, I had been traveling through that area and had been warned about the city's speed trap. It did not help, though: even though I was driving a full 10 miles below their posted speed limit, the cop that pulled me over claimed I was going 80 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. When I suggested he must be mistaking me for another driver, he made me follow him to the jail.

WHAT? Even my law enforcement friends tell me about the speed traps. There are all over this country. AND don't let them try to tell you there aren't a certain number that they are required to write each month.
