Hammond Ponchatula area
Just came back today trying to decide where to live and Denham Springs is out.
Hammond and Ponchatula still have the quiet towns affect.
Just wanted more info on how the locals feels about these 2 towns.
Finally making my way home after 17 yrs. up north
Thanks

You might want to look at some crime stats before you pick Tangipahoa Parish. Major crimes are going off the charts in Hammond, with Ponchatoula not far behind. Local government officials don't want to talk about it because it will eventually have an economic impact. I moved to Hammond in 1970 from a nearby parish and have lived in this area since then. I will be leaving here within a year for the above reasons among others. It isn't the same neat little college town it was when I moved here.
Good luck with your move. I hope you find somewhere you like.

Hammond/Ponchatoula have obviously been getting a lot of NO migration. How much of it is suburban, and how much is inner city ?

Well I am from the area. I'll see if I can help. Please say NO NO NO to Hammond! Especially if you have children. Just not a good place to be. Now Ponchatoula, I went to high school there. Not bad at all. They have the Strawberry Festival once a year, and thats alot of fun. But I really like Ponchatoula. I also like the small town of Springfield and Albany. Very nice towns, and safe. Then you would just have to drive 15 minutes into Hammond to grocery shop. Also the Mandeville/Madisonville/Covington area is very nice area! Hope this helps.

My inlaws have lived in Ponchatoula since the mid 70s and hate it, but everytime I've visited (never lived there--lived in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Walker) it's been nice enough. I love the Strawberry Festival and the little shops are a blast.

Just curious, why would anyone live some place they "hate" for 30 years???

Wow, that blows my mind. I would never waste my life living someplace I hated. Maybe they really like it, but just love to complain? Personally I find the Ponchatoula area a nice place

Too many miserable pissed off people in Louisiana period.
I think things are pretty ok here, it has it's problems but it's nothing worse than metro Atlanta.
