We may be relocating this summer. I have been looking around the internet for places on the outskirts of Monroe. I have found Choudrant and Sterlington. These places look like what we may be looking for to raise our kids. I'd like to find out any info I can about possible rentals and businesses in the area. Are there any grocery stores or places to eat? We really do want a rural setting and do not mind driving a distance to shop. Thanks in advance!

Choudrant is definitely rural alright. But there is a little downtown square that the community is trying to fix up and then Ruston is right down the highway to the west. You can do most of your shopping there. I know there have to be grocery stores in Choudrant because there is a big $ neighborhood there now called Squire Creek. I doubt they drive over to Ruston every time they need a gallon of milk.
I don't know anything about Sterlington except passing through. Again, very rural.
Have you considered Ruston? It is very kid friendly and small town USA. The college is there, and they often host activities for families and summer kid camps. Although it isn't totally rural, it is definitely a little "bubble" where everyone knows everybody. Check it out. You could also try looking online at local newspaper for the area -Ruston Daily Leader. You can read some of the stuff that makes the headlines there. Very charming.

Have you checked out the West Monroe/Calhoun area? Its a great area to raise a family. Calhoun is very rural and has great schools and it's a short drive to town.

Choudrant has one mini mart gas station and one diner. They are getting a dollar store eventually. Squire Creek residents drive to Ruston as it's just a quick drive down I-20.
