The problem isn't drilling itself, but rather WHERE they're drilling. We can't drill offshore, in shallow waters, where there is very little risk. Interestingly enough, other countries are drilling off our own coast. So BP and its like, must drill in deep water, thus increasing the risk. I'm not supporting BP. I think they got away with bad practice, but in reality, they were in bed with the govt (MMS etc) and given a kiss and a wink wink, nod nod. Now, it's come back to bite us in a big way.

A moratorium on drilling is stupid. It's like grounding all planes because of a plane crash. Get real.

Reading on the Alaska forum they say BP will be fined 1,100 to 3500 dollars a barrel so at 50,000 p;us barrels a day and this is day 53 so 2,650,000+ barrels for a fine of heck looks about as big as our national debt with no end in sight.

The seafood scene in New Orleans ia about to get real expensive. A number of the major oyster house's in New Orleans have shut down, can't find enough oyster's to justify staying open.

Not to mention that I've heard crabbing is in the toilet. After boiling, you're left with a pot full of black with non-edible crabs as far west as Rockefeller Refuge near the Texas border.

BP has run this whole mess about as bad as any company can run it. Over half the gulf looks to be destroyed along with untold sq miles of marsh, it will never be returned to it's former state, impossible, gee I hope we aren't over reacting to this mess, BP has been so honest and honarble during this mess, course with a valdez size spill every 7 or 8 days and this thang going on for 50+ days and will go for another 50+ days before they get the blow out stoped it sure isn't worth chanceing another spill when BP has acted so horable wrong. Some real rules and guidelines must be set up, as it's evident the oil company's will not do the right thang when disaster strikes. It amazes me that bp has spent more on PR advertising than they have on settleing claims for people that are being finacialy ruined because of the disaster they alone created.

Hi, I'm from Maine (Our lobster industry is worried too) but I'm worried about the long-term consequences of this, especially if they CANNOT stop this leak. I mean if they can't, then what happens? How much oil is in that huge reservoir? I hope they do stop it, but if they can't, that's the end of us as a species I fear...

I wonder how long it will take for We The Sheeple to remember that oil companies raise gas prices to nearly $5 per gallon.

I wonder if humans will ever realize that oil companies simply can't be trusted. Their environmental approach is public relations, not reality.

You should have seen what the oil industry used to get away with. For decades they'd just dump NORMS and mud directly into the marsh. Anyone who denies that is in denial or lying.

Don't trust the oil companies. Say it slowly. Know it. It is fact.

Oh come on now, nobody in this day and age can get away with selling toxic, much less oil-filled, oysters and shrimp and other seafood at restaurants. The FDA would be on them immediately.
