I went to UL both undergraduate and graduate and really enjoyed it. It isn't Harvard, but then, I couldn't get into Harvard! A nice, mid-level school where you can learn if you put your mind to it.

Most of the lawyers I know and that's a bunch that went to a KY law school went to UK. I'm not a lawyer but I'm married to one and I think the general consensus is that UK is a better law school than UofL far as overall pass rate for the bar exam or multi-state. Either way, I'm sure UofL is better than Chase.

US News has Kentucky ranked 60 and Louisville ranked 97th, but they at least both made the top 100. I am not sure if their rankings are scientific, but I am just throwing it out there:
USNews.com: America's Best Graduate Schools 2008: Top Law Schools
Law school is tough, so good luck.

Trust me on this if nothing else ...where you go; matters. You will not have to time to have a life nor enjoy the sites and sounds of the area. When I was in school and my wife was in law school there was time for study, school, sleep and that was about it. You choice of school and the grades will dictate two things, where you are offered a job and how much they $tart you at. Depending on the type of law you are interested in will play a small role in the area you want to be. I vicariously went to law school while going to engineering school ... life, you have not.
You need to pick a school based on the quality of the education and not the geographic location.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Unless you go to a "top 20" school, you should pick a law school based on where you want to practice. If you want to be in Louisville or So. IN, go to UofL. If you want to be in Lexington, go to UK, although there are a good amount of UK grads in Louisville. But, it matters. The bar in medium size cities are small communities. Everyone knows each other. You will be practicing with the people you graduate with. The practice of law, unless in a big firm, is a very regional thing because a lot of laws are different in other jurisdictions. Therefore, if you want to live in the area, go to UofL. You won't have much trouble assimilating into the Louisville Bar after you graduate. From my understanding, UofL provides a very practical legal education (as opposed to a theoretical one at UK). Brandeis has also hired a new Dean who is very impressive. I'm told there will be many changes for the better in the next few years.
**I have been or currently am a law student. I won't disclose where. The information I have provided is based on my understanding of UofL, UK and law school in general. I'm putting this in a joke on my current/future career.
