Anyone been to the new Village Anchor Restaurant in Anchorage? (Louisville: to buy, organic) - Kentucky (KY) -Jefferson County - City-Data Forum

My husband and I and our friends love the Village Anchor in Anchorage - delicious and inventive menu, beautiful outdoor seating and very friendly and efficient service (at least when we have been there). Everything we have eaten there is consistenty good - my favorite is their ahi salad - fabulous! Thought you might like to give it a try. Prices are not bad either.

cattknap, there are so many good restaurants in Louisville metro that it is literally insane for a city it's size. I have recently seen recs for many suburban restaurants on here but most the good ones are inside I-264. That said, there is a great restaurant scene cooking in the various suburbs in the NE quandrant bounded by I-64, south of I-71, and inside I-265.

louisville is blessed to have such a active local food critic like Robin Garr and an oinline foodie community that is very organic and not run by some cheesy national media outlet like the Gannet or Tribune companies.

Stx - how do you know that most of the good restaurants are inside the I-264 if you don't go into the burbs to try some of thos restaurants? There may be more restaurants but frankly, many of the restaurants we have tried are not that great. It is fun to venture out of your comfort zone into all areas and try lots of different kinds of restaurants in different areas. We try to do that. We have tried a number of restaurants that have been rated highly on LouisvilleHotBytes and found that the recommendations are not always great. What is a good restaurant to some is not so great to others.

We are very health conscious and are constantly looking for restaurants that offer healthy food choices - organic and locally grown and raised if possible, flavorful and reasonably priced. The Village Anchor is one of those kinds of restaurants. We love Mikato (Dupont Circle-there is a reason they were voted best sushi in Louisville for 2010) and Northend Cafe too. Varanese was good but not great. We gave Basa two tries - once for lunch and once for dinner - terrible. Ramsi's Cafe - fun place, bad food. 211 Clover Lane - we like very much. Bucks - good not great but a fun place to go. Selena's - good but not great. Havana Rumba - good not great - over crowded. Last year we went out to dinner every Friday with friends just to try a place to eat where we had never been. Many were good, none were great and some were terrible.

I'd love to know what restaurants others feel are really good, medium priced restaurants within Jefferson/Oldham Counties or in New Albany, Jeffersontown - close by in Indiana.

In today's paper was an article about a new restaurant opening next year on Market Street that will feature locally grown produce and locally raised beef, chickens, etc. I can't remember the name of it but will be looking for it early next year.

We finally went to the Village Anchor this week. They've always been booked solid when we've tried to go on the weekend nights. It was as great as everyone says it is. We love going to Frankfort Ave and Bardstown rd to restaurants, but it's nice having options closer to home. Beautiful place. We somehow ended up spending nearly $50 for lunch (2 iced teas, 2 entrees, and a shared dessert with tip) which was a splurge, but the food and service were fantastic.

I'm glad you liked it - the outdoor seating is really wonderful isn't it? They are coming out with new menus and they do try to buy local produce, meat/chickens, etc. The service is always first class and the owner is a very nice man - good people there.

Here are a few of my favorites I copied and pasted from another thread I just responded to:

Cafe Mimosa- on Bardstown Rd. This has been one of my favorite places for years. Great food, not overpriced, and the owner is super nice.

Brix Wine Bar- located on LaGrange Road in the east end... I'm not a drinker, but this place has GREAT food!

Ramsi's Cafe on the World- I'm really surprised you didn't care for the food, I've tried many things on their menu, and have rarely disliked anything. I usually go here for dinner, but their Sunday brunch is awesome too!

Red Pepper Cafe- there are two locations now, one on Main Street in Lagrange and on the 329 bypass in Crestwood (both in Oldham County). I can't say enough about this place for catering and/or lunch! Great food, large portions, great prices!!

Thank you Queen. We'll check out Cafe Mimosa (we have heard it is good) and Brix Wine Bar (we don't drink but will check out the food). When we went to Ramsi's we had a party of 8 people and not one person liked their food and we haven't been back - maybe a bad night for them. We go to the Red Pepper all the time - the one on the 329 bypass is always packed at lunch and is so nice and new but I love the original on Main Street in La Grange (my favorite is the Rosa Wrap) - we love La Grange and go there often to the farmer's market and to a few of the shops. Once in a while we go to the Rover - but there food is not that great. Our favorite Italian restaurant is Amici's Cafe - so charming.

Cattknap, I hope you'll at least give Ramsi's one more try before you give up on it! I grew up in LaGrange, and often drive over there just to walk down Main Street and to visit the farmer's market (isn't it great?). I will have to try Amici's Cafe- I've been wanting to find a good place for Italian, thanks for the suggestion!
