We're relocating to Louisville and have found the bank we currently use is not in Louisville. What bank do you recommend?

PNC is great... I've had no problems with them, and they have a great product offering. They have awesome customer service, and are still one of the few banks nationwide where you can get a free checking account!

As someone who has worked in banking for over 3 years and for different banks, the large one I would recommend is BB&T. I personally think that L&N credit union is worth consideration also. I prefer credit unions to banks because of nationwide access to your money with some CU's via ATM networks and shared branches.

I use First Federal (this gives you free access to all Fifth Third ATMs too). Never had any problems with them.

I have found solid performance at Stock Yards Bank, Republic is very well respected, too. My wife has been a member of L&N Federal CU for years, never a problem. The Bank, Oldham County is a solid local bank if you are living in the Anchorage/Oldham County area. If you are looking for a home loan, a Realtor, we have found Commonwealth Bank to be extraordinary.

L & N Federal Credit Union is good, as is PNC. The smaller, local banks like River City and Stock Yards do a nice job.

Really, I can't think of one that is awful. The problem is almost that none of them stand out and are about equal.

There is one bank I went into one time that was pretty awful... I had to cash a check there.... the Republic Bank at They were super, super pushy about me "needing" to open an account there. Complete and total turn off.

Agree, and that's a growing trend everywhere. I notice the tellers in almost every bank I visit seem to be pushing some service on me. My bet is that they aren't any happier about it than we are! No question their bosses are pushing them to push us.

Somehow I failed to finish a sentence in there lol... it was the Republic Bank at Market and 5th or 6th.

PNC has never, ever, ever pushed a product onto me unless I've asked specifically about it (like Virtual Wallet). That's what I really love about them. Wells Fargo, the bank I had in Arizona and Nebraska... I had PNC when I was in PA... they were always calling me on the weekends at like 9:30 AM to offer me a product or wanting me to open a such and such everytime I went into the branch. So beyond annoying.
