Floyds Knobs IN vs Oldham Cnty schools/taxes?

One point I have learned about Indiana schools. Since they are quasi-public private corporations without specific government lines similar to how Kentucky splits on county line basis, a home's situs is not necessarily a guarantee of your child staying in the same corporation's zone. The schools won't even tell Realtors which homes are in their districts.. I recently listed and sold a home in Clark County, I still do not have a definitive answer as to the assigned schools for that home.

Good info here. If I had kids, I would totally go with South Oldham for their middle and high school years. I hated changing schools as a kid, and would want mine to go to the same middle+high school, elementary could help too. Anyway I like being so close to Louisville. (I'm practically in Louisville.)

In regards to Tomocox re: Indiana schools

I dunno what you're talking about when you say that Indiana school districts are quasi public/private. They're public entities with well-defined boundaries. I'm surprised you're finding it difficult to verify the school a home is assigned to.

I'll put a plug in for Floyd's Knobs. It is a beautiful area with views of Louisville that cannot be matched anywhere else in the metro area. And Floyd Central HS is hands down the best public school in the Indiana suburbs, and I'd bet it could easily compete with Oldham schools.

Oldham is lovely too, but don't rule out the Knobs until you've been there.

I can't speak with authority, but I can report what others with reasonable authority have shared. A Realtor related businesswoman described how she had purchased the most perfect home, in the best school district for her child in S. Indiana, only to be notified one year later that her home's school base had been "sold" or otherwise assigned to another school corporation. This change was so detrimental to her child's education that she had to find an alternative. When I contacted the Clark County School Corp to determine if they were the provider for school services (there are several corporations that provide service in Clark Co), they would not give me a definative answer.

If this information is inaccurate or if my personal experience is rare, please advise. I do not ever seek to give anyone incorrect information.

Here is a map of the entire state of Indiana with all school corporations outlined. Of course, this will not answer which school inside the district an address is attached to, just which corporation.

I wonder if what happened to your client was not so much a complete change in school districts per se, but just a rebalancing of schools within a district. I couldn't tell you the answer, but hopefully this map will be of some use.

Let me be clear. My client was not involved in the school district change, it was a highly involved Realtor support specialist, someone who not only could speak with authority, but someone who was directly affected by a re-alighnment of the school corporation districts. In otherwords, while your link to the maps is appreciated, the information I have is that the map lines changed without input from the citizens affected. That is my only point with regards to that matter.

I too was a transplant to the Louisville Metro area and had searched for housing in Oldham County. I work in Louisville. Not finding exactly what I was looking for in Oldham, I spent 1 day looking in Floyds Knobs,In and found exactly what I was looking for at a very pleasant price, a good value. I agree with a previous poster that the drive across the I-64 bridge is a piece of cake 99% of the time. I definitely do not regret the decision to live in Indiana and encourage you to check it out. Downtown Louisville is less 15 minutes away!
