Teenage Behavior
I'm currently living in W WA but hoping to move out of here within the next year for financial reasons and getting away from the ratrace and overpopulation. In fact, I am making a trip to KY in Oct.
Here is my question: we here in W WA have experienced alot of teenage vandalism. Most recently, vehicles on I-5 were being targeted during the work commute (kids throwing huge rocks and bricks at the windshields of moving cars, causing some injuries---one man was hospitalized for glass in the eye). We also have kids who drive by and throw things at pedestrians (Wendy's milkshakes seem to be the popular bullet) and throwing large rocks and bricks at house windows.
Is there alot of this sort of activity going on in the larger metro areas: L-Ville, Lexington, etc?
Just curious

West side of Louisville is a pretty bad area, really bad in some parts. Stay away from there and you should be fine. I have driven through there before and while it's not like the south side of Chicago I would still stay away. There's nothing there anyway so no reason to go in that area. The eastern side is known as the nicest part of Louisville so if you can afford to get something in that area you shouldn't have to worry about any of these things you mentioned. I personally don't think the south/southwest side is all that great either around the Pleasure Ridge Park area and Dixie Highway and also around the Jefferson Mall but it's not terrible I guess. I wouldn't live in those areas though.
I am from the Indiana side of the Ohio River BTW and don't even go into Louisville that often so someone who actually lives there and knows the areas better might be able to help you more but I think the east side and also Oldham County are generally the best areas to live in. I don't think it's any different than any other big city--just use common sense and stay away from bad areas and you will likely not run into any of the problems you mentioned. I didn't feel any more or less safe in Louisville than I have in Dallas, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Cincinnati, etc. so it's all the same as far as I'm concerned.
I think the only way to completely avoid idiotic people is to move to a small town but I'm sure there are young people that will do stupid stuff like that there too. I guess just try to avoid them the best you can by staying away from bad areas.

Funny thing is, I live in a very good area. In fact, a high income area and this sort of stuff is happening. That is why I am asking if metro areas in KY experience the same sort of thing---not necessarily by "bad" or "good" area but in general.

I've never heard of this being a problem anywhere in this area. I guess it happens, but it's not a problem.
And do you at least get fries with that shake?

This past summer, all the kids got restless about 1st of August. We had some fairly significant vandalism in the area, but for the most part Oldham County is crime free with the exception of some of our redneck ghettos.

well, vandalism happens in every city, but i do not think it is terrible in louisville. The east end is the best place to live, but they also have their fair share of break-ins, but again who doesnt. The Dixie Highway area were i live is not as bad as percieved before. We really do not get bothered out here, & my home is around the 600,000 dollar range. what is your current price range? and also Lexington is very nice in some parts, esc. outlying areas. One thing about Lexington it feels like a big traffic jam but it seems as if their are no homes to support the cars.lol

I also live in SW Jefferson County and aside from loud bass and around my last house the four-wheelers, I have had NO problems. Things do go on in all of Louisville.
