SO WHY on earth do you live in white trash central?!
I bought into the dream of home ownership. our house is great, we love it. unfortunately we didn't do our due diligence in researching the area. call it a life lesson. my house will be listed as of march 1st and when it sells i'll be putting this breeding ground of ignorance in my rearview. goodbye okolona, goodbye kentucky. i know, i know, "if yew dont like it get owt"
that is exactly my plan.

I myself, unlike others, doesn't think louisville is all bad. there are certainly some very cool things about this city and certainly many many places that are worse. the negative things I say about this place are 100 percent correct imo, I don't have an agenda and i'm not a miserable, negative person (some believe if you say anything negative about this place you must be on suicide watch). I've lived a long time in a lot of different places, so maybe i have a little more perspective than the life-long louisville resident, most of whom have been only here and florida, as if it's the only vacation spot in the world. this place has it's good and it's bad, like any other place. those who deny any negatives and take them as personal insults really need to get out of this box a little more before they die. there really is a great big world outside of the commonwealth.

I have just read about two pages of hatred. Hatred towards communities, hatred towards peoples, and hatred towards individuals. It comes from both right and left, and it is very deep rooted on either side. One of the joys of being American is that I get to choose. One party mentioned they didn't do their due diligence before purchasing their home. I respect that party for being not only honest with this forum, but most importantly with themself.

There is no reason to hate people or persons, there is every reason to hate non-social or self-centered behaviors. There is no reason to hate the uneducated, there is every reason to hate the attitudes that kept them from taking advantage of the greatest "free" educational system the world has ever known. There is no reason to hate a man (or woman) for the birthright of their DNA, but every reason to hate the misinformation that causes people of every ethnicity to mistrust people of other ethnicities.

I could go on, but for those who are considering a move to the Louisville area, in my opinion, you will find Louisville to be a small metropolitian community. It is one full of diversity, one where you can live in the middle of 99 different ethnicities, or amongst only "your own." You will find Louisville to be large enough to entertain, but not so large to lose it's innocence. You will find great educational and medical centers. There are opportunities to succeed and fail because you dared to risk. Papa John's Pizza started in a closet in the late 1980's and became a world leader in its industry. Yet, there have been those failures too.

Go ahead, move to Louisville, our noses may run, but our feet won't freeze. We are just the middle of the road on just about everything. Few extremes to either side of the road are noted in Louisville.

Louisville (and Kentucky) is a great place for some people. It depends on the person. and that person's interests.
What I've known for years - people like me do not belong in Louisville (or Kentucky, or anywhere else in the South)*.
But I'm finally at the point of starting my countdown, I have about one year before I can finally depart. Oh, happy day! I've learned my lesson the hard way.
*since decades I am an atheist! I do not own (nor wish to own) guns! I am not a conservative! I appreciate French movies, college radio stations, I read non-fiction books, my favorite sport is baseball (but not fanatic), I've lived (non-military) in Europe, I like the arts, non-mainstream music. I like Bill Maher and Bill Hicks. I don't identify with Joe Sixpack.
All this is too weird for Louisville, Kentucky and the South

Oh you are SO COOL! Don't flatter yourself! I have lived in many major cities, and have been in Louisville for 6 years. Most of my friends have a Master's degree. They travel, love foreign films, none of them are bible-thumpers...in fact most are atheist or agnostic, have great taste in music and often hit the local arts scene (or contribute), and travel to nearby cities to check out museums, etc...

You have your head in the sand, or up your ass.

Good for you!
You (or anyone) can call me all the names you want. I don't care. I just say, it's a Kentuckian saying it.
Cool it! Put on that Lynard Skynard "Sweet Home Alabama" and everything's okay!

I think I have figured it out, VV. You never allowed yourself to become a Louisvillian, a Kentuckian, maybe even an American. I have lived in Kentucky for my entire 59.6 years on this earth. I have never heard one Kentuckian phrase your quote, ever.

In a previous post on this thread, I spoke of hatred and acceptance. I have seen anger such as you seem to have so many times from people who didn't want to accept and thrive where they may have been transplanted. Oh, VV, you have only a realitively short number of years to live on this earth. From this date until the time of your passing, you have choices to make. One of those choices simply will be how to accept life and the gifts each day will bring you.

Does it mean you have to like or accept everything? No!! But you can see things and work to change them for the better and become happy when your work shows progress.

I wish you all the happiness in the world.

I personally know multiple people who fit all these criteria but have managed to settle down and enjoy living in Louisville. Many have even come to love it. I guess they are just more enlightened and broadminded.

I genuinely don't wish you any ill; I hope you are able to find somewhere you can be happy. Until then, I also hope you can restrain your bitter, anti-Louisville snark.

Ummm. What city did I move to?
Louisville is the best city I have ever lived in and I am so happy that I moved here from Chicago 5 years ago. More locally owned restaurants than any city in America outside of New York. An amazing arts program(Opera, ballet, orchestra and performing arts). One of the best parks systems in the United States. Low crime. Beautiful architecture. Friendly people and a low cost of living.
EVERY city in America has there rednecks, thugs and just plain morons. Try living in Chicago and not encountering idiots on every corner.
There is a reason why I moved to the Highlands and there is a reason why 30 others that I know moved here from Chicago.
If you want the same boring cliched city like every other city in America, you might want to pick another city city. If you like unique cities with great independant restaurants, arts etc... then Louisville is an amazing place to raise a family!

N. Olikee - You obviously do not live in Louisville if you think Indy is a better place to live than Louisville.

Visvaldis - The suburbs of Louisville may be conservative but the city of Louisville is liberal. President Obama received more votes in Louisville , by a wide margin, over John McCain. You need to find a part of the city that fits your needs better. If you lived in the northern suburbs of Chicago, you could make the same argument about conservative christians.
