Family needs advice on Fort Knox neighborhoods and schools (Louisville: cul-de-sac, rentals)

I've scoured the forum for all posts related to Fort Knox. I know it may seem like beating a dead horse, but I want to open up the topic again as many of the threads are older. I appreciate all advice!

We are a military family of 6, with children ages 15, 13, 11 & 9. We are looking for a safe, family friendly neighborhood where the kids can play freely outside with the neighbor kids. Walking trails, cul-de-sacs and parks are desirable. Schools are important too; I have done much research and recognize that Elizabethtown Independent is considered the best in the area (we are NOT willing to commute from Louisville, nor put up with the Jefferson County issues), but I'm positive my children will thrive in any school as long as it is a safe environment. Of all the Hardin and Elizabethtown district elementary, middle and high schools, are there any I should absolutely exclude?

A larger, updated home is important--4+ bedrooms, 2 car garage, 2.5+ bathrooms, formal dining, eat-in kitchen, rec room and CLEAN. How reasonable is it that I will find a rental that fits these wishes? What particular neighborhoods/developments should I focus on? (It seems KY homes come with acres. We are most certainly NOT looking for an unmanageably large yard) Oh, and we have a very well behaved 45 lb lab mix. We arrive the beginning of July. I would like to make a visit sometime before then to find a home for us. Anyone have any advice on the best time frame to do that?

I'll chime in being a former Hardin Co resident. I don't think you absolutely exclude it but the North Hardin HS district is less preferred that the John Hardin or Elizabethtown HS districts.

I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding a rental.

Just wondering if you are still moving to the Fort Knox area. My family and I are moving to Hardin County in July and I have also been researching the schools and looking for rentals in the area.
