Art it is mostly a blue collar area but there are some higher end areas as well. The zip codes of 40258 and 40272 are what you should look at. Good luck!

Thank You. We are going to be renting a house in the 40272 area off of Torrington Dr. I believe, so I hope that's a decent area. Thanks again!

I'm not a huge fan of that area. A little rough for me, but then, I'm a wussy!

I am not too sure about that particular area. If you have kids I suggest you try to get them into Traditional schools though. Good luck!

Off Topic, could I get you to elaborate a little on what you mean by it's a rough area? My wife read your post and now she's panicking about the area.
Missy, thank you for all your help. We do have 3 children, and that is our biggest concern. We are moving there site unseen, a relative secured the house for us and said it was a nice area, but what's nice to her may not be nice to us, so we were hoping someone that lives in that area other than my relative could tell us a little bit about it. I've looked it up on the internet and there's not much that I could find. I did find out that there are 44 registered sex offenders in that zip code....I don't like that. But we need to know the good and the bad......thanks again!

artman you are welcome! How old are your children? I don't really hear much about things going on in that area aside from general teenage shenanegans. I believe there is a website that actually maps out where sex offenders are. Where are you moving from?

Hi Missy,
Our kids are 6, 8, and 16....We can handle normal teenage shenanegans...just hoping we weren't going to be moving to a high crime/drug area. I guess the fact that you don't hear much about that area is a good sign. We are moving from a small town in North Carolina called Lewisville, (but we are from California originally) everyone is so friendly here it makes us a little nervous about the move. I was born in Louisville and have family there so I'm not that nervous, just trying to calm my wifes nerves and my oldest boy.

There are some areas of nearly every zip code of Jefferson County that are very good places to live and there are some areas of those same zip codes that aren't as good. I think what Off Topic was speaking of is some of these areas. Valley Station and Pleasure Ridge Park were the suburbs of choice in the 1950's, 60's, & 70's. Since those times, the development of eastern Jefferson County has left some of the older suburbs to a lower ratio of owner-occupant homes. It is recognized that the higher the owner-occupancy of an area, the lower the incidence of crime. Living in VS or PRP should not be too risky, but do your homework and check your gut. I feel that VS and PRP sits poised to fall into a ghetto status, or with solid local effort, those communities could become true renaissance model suburbs.
