My sister and I are still very young (18 and 21) but we would really like to more to a different area. We are still thinking about moving to Louisville, we went there earlier this year and we both loved it! But I've heard it's not very safe. At least not if you are living in one of the very cheap apartments. (we won't have a job when we move and we have also never had a real job!) We're not really used to being in the middle of any kind of crime. So is there any areas you would recommend to start out in close to Louisville so we can still visit often? (30 minutes or so away would be great)

Thanks!

Default louisville is safe

I have lived here in Louisville 53 years and would call the city safe. as for advice on where to live youy would first need a budget to work off of. My advice is to seek employment first.

just my 2 cents worth

i'd steer well clear of whispering hills. not that it's a horrible area, but it is in decline and those apartments are ancient and prone to flooding. parts of clifton can be dicey, but other parts are great. it has a close proximity to all the cooler ares of the city, but there are a few shady sec. 8 apts there, so i would just check it out before renting. do not rent at leith lane or anywhere in that area. a rule of thumb about bardstown rd is north of the watterson is great, south of it, bishops ln, etc. is not.
brooklawn drive is the worst of the bunch. this place is a hole. it's management skipped out on paying electric and trash removal for months. it was all over the news.

of all these, i'd say whispering hills is the least horrible.

if you could tell me what your budget is, that would really help us help you.

i would suggest old louisville. while you might see some shady peeps now and again, but i think you'll be safer and happier in a cool old historic mansion apt. than in a crappy mass produced apt. that is probably populated with some unsavoury charactors.

I actually looked at an apartment at the Imperial House. The building itself is very nice and has a gated parking lot and the apartments are pretty clean. However, I was not wild about the surrounding area. Not that it's unsafe in my view but for the price there you can get the same 1 bed apartment in better areas.

I actually would take a look at the apartments with the monopoly realty company. Most are in the highlands and 1 beds start in the $500 range. I was actually going to apply with their Camelot apartments before my current place came through. I actually have buyers remorse about not picking that apartment instead.

Also, I'd look on Hurstbourne Parkway also which is a nice area.
