I dont know if I will be violating some type of protocol asking for the name of a business here, so please remove with my apologies if I have.

If not, I am in need of a pick-up truck for a long-term family project. I have done the numbers on renting and they come out high enough that I feel I might as well just buy a used vehicle and at least have something to show for when all the money spent.

Is there a reliable used truck dealer who you might recommend? I see zillions of ads for local, used car dealers on the local stations, but by nature, I'm sort of skeptical of used car dealers. I want to spend about 5k+ for a Ford 150 or something similar. I will have to finance about 2.5k of this.
Is there a local dealer who might accommodate this craziness or should I just rent ?

Thank you very much in advance and have a great day !

It's hard to put honest and dealer in the same sentence anywhere for that matter...good luck.

For $2k or $3k, you should be able to find many reliable f150 trucks and pay cash vs. a loan. Search craigslist for 150's. When I searched the bigger websites for selling trucks, no dealers were under $3k. dealers have problems making loans and money on trucks over 140k mileage.

From time to time there are auctions on cars somewhere around here I heard, or maybe it is southern Indiana. A friend of mine got a good deal on a car and spent about what you mentioned. It was only driven by a college student whose parents got it, so it was in darn good shape. Check Craigslist about the auctions or the CJ.
