Hello,

I am a single thirty year old female who will be relocating to Louisville this spring. I am not familiar with the area so any help you could provide with my housing search would be appreciated.

I will be working at Kosair Children's Hospital downtown, my salary will be around 50k and I would like to find an apartment around $750/mo as I am still paying off my student loans and some credit card debt. Ideally, I would like a 2-bedroom apartment, duplex or townhouse if that's doable in my price range.

My question is, what areas would be best for me? My top priorities are affordability, safety and convenience (proxemity to work (if possible), amenities). I want to live somewhere that has been well-maintained with attentive management/landlord(s). Just as importantly, are there any areas I should absolutely avoid? Also, I live out of state and will not be able to visit the area until a few weeks before the actual move; how much time should I plan to look for an apartment? Are there any helpful tools online you could recommend?

Thanks!

It's been awhile since I have lived in Louisville, but perhaps St Matthews or Highlands?
Though There are lots of great little safe, neighborhoods throughout the city though.
Do you like Urban or suburban?
Definitely visit:
Craigslist Louisville (Lots of great independent rentals -not just all cookie cutter complexes)
Louisville Craigslist
Hotpads (great site, despite it's name.... includes map and lots of info)
Hotpads

You can use the Apartment Guides online, but it's usually only the big complexes that have the money to advertise in them, so you are more limited.

You can also try Trulia or Zillow.

Good Luck and Welcome to Louisville!

@everythingthatshimmers - I currently live in Aspenwood Apartments in the East End of Louisville. My rent is very reasonable, the buildings are in great shape and the management is amazing. I've lived there for almost five years. I work downtown as well (and actually used to work for Kosair!) and the commute is not bad at all.

The East End is VERY safe and quiet. It's a good area for a young single woman IMO. Please send me a direct message if you want more info.
