Hey, Long time read and first time poster.

My Spouse and I are currently looking to move to louisville. She will possibly be teaching in the jefferson county school system and I will transferring my current job down there. We are a Younger couple(mid 20's) and are getting mixed reviews on where to live. We would prefer the city life and be able to go to local shops/resturants/etc, but don't wont to compromise safety. Is there any recommendations on where to stay?

I know this is a hot topic, but I do apperciate the feedback

Thanks!

Most every one will tell you to live in the Highlands. I have no problem with that. Good place. 2nd place would be lower Brownsboro Rd. Not too far from Frankfort Ave. (hot spot), groceries, and easy to and from Downtown.

Middletown is not a bad place to be either.

Remember this, if you are planning to rent, my standard is simple, "live as close to squalor as you can stand." Renting will benefit you with little more than a roof over your head. Owning a home will still give you tax benefits, and will give you appreciation. Yes, we've had a reduction of property values in the past few years, but people who owned and didn't sell haven't lost a thing yet.

We are more looking to rent, rather than own. However, I will take those places into mind. I am figuring on taking a day trip to walk the streets during the day and night to get a feel for the areas.

Thanks for your input tomocox!

yeah, just search highlands on here and you will find a million discussions about it. for walkable, safe nabe with tons of shops bars and dining nothing really comes close, although Frankfort ave and nulu are closing the gap. and btw, the highlands is as safe as any urban neighborhood you'll find anywhere.

Don't forget about Germantown. I lived on Ellison Ave for 3 years, never felt unsafe and could walk/bike to everything the Highlands has to offer.
