I was planning for a quick one/two day visit to Louisville to attend the Germantown Shotgun Festival (since Im a fan of Germantown and Shotgun Houses and the Nachbar, which is sponsoring it).

But, I found out that there will be a big Pride event on Bardstown Road that very day. Not that there is a conflict (I can do both), but was surprised to see two Pride events....there is the "traditional" gay pride event in June (traditional as that is when these usually happen), but then there is this new one ...

The new event's website:
The 1st Louisville Pride Festival - One Community

The June pride website:

Any idea why there are two of these? I know Louisville is pretty LGBT friendly, and Louisvillians (gay and straight) love their festivals, but was wondering if there is some story...is one going to replace the other or is the fun going to be doubled as an ongoing thing....one event to kick off the summer and the other to close, perhaps????

indeed. Louisville is not only gay friendly...it is exploding with gays. If you dont believe me, check out Play nightclub in butchertown next time in town. Or the nice laid back bar scene at Chill bar, Nowherebar, and Bigbar.

If you look down a few threads, I cover, along with a few other posters, the LGBT scene in Louisville. Some of it was with input from a gay friend, however I am sure there is someone who is actually gay themselves here who know more than me.

There is going to be two gay festivals....not to compete, but according to my gay friend, to substantiate the fact that the original Highlands and Cherokee Triangle is a full fledge "gayborhood" if you will. The amount of gay and even transgender couples you see down there...it is just a normal thing. Reminds me a bit of DC. Louisville is just a hot city right now.

Just last week, that same area saw one of the nation's largest (and they claim the largest) zombie attacks:

Zombie Attack organizer: No money for cleanup

Always something down there almost every weekend in warm months

No, it isn't a replacement for actual pride, and isn't ran by the same people.
