Default U of Lousiville

I have been accepted to University of South Florida, Arizona State, and Louisville. I am thinking ASU may be too far from where I live, though I do have family there, (it's pretty expensive for out-of-state too), USF is still a home-state possibility, but I am very curious about Louisville. One factor I stress is the job market. I will be majoring in business and finance, and may end up staying where I go to college to live. What's the market like in Louisville?

What are things to do for an 18-year-old also? Just any facts or pointers about the city would be great. I have heard nothing but good things!

Thank you!

Louisville has several neighborhoods that are very popular w/ college students and young professionals. One of them is Old Louisville, which is just North of the school's main campus. It is the largest Victorian era Historic Preservation District in the US. About 20% of U of L students reside in O.L.

A three mile stretch along Bardstown Rd, known as The Highlands, contains a huge numbers of eclectic shops, restaurants, and night clubs. It is located about 4 miles from campus, it is typically a 10-15 minute commute.

There are tons of pictures of both areas under "Louisville Photo Sticky"

If you are needing to work during college, check out the UPS deal too. It's not all package handling, but a great work/study opportunity.

I spent a year at UofL before coming back to Oklahoma to pursue my degree in Meteorology. Louisville, to me, is a very progressive city. The campus is located fairly close to downtown, which is under a major construction boom with condos, retail centers, and skyscrapers being built (louisville's new tallest is under construction as well). The off campus options are further expanding as well. I really liked the campus and am curious as to what it would be like in the near future after some recent developments are completed. Louisville also has a fairly neat music scene close by if you are a concert-goer.

I would not advise the UPS program unless you need it to fund your education. I went to UL and lived in Old Louisville. The UPS program was starting up when I was there. It was a total GPA and social life killer for a few of my friends. You want to enjoy your college experience, not spend 4-5 nights a week working midnight shifts.

I see your point entirely. Unfortunately, some people may not have an option and this is better than flipping burgers to pay for college. I had to work my way through college, and it was no fun. In fact, you are correct that it was a social life killer. However, you have to have your priorities straight - college came before a social life.

Still, I really feel sorry for students having to pay their way through college today. It's much harder and more expensive than it used to be.

USF is still a home-state possibility
I'm in St. Pete, FL, cruising L'Ville threads for the same reason you are. With USF, I'm afraid summer classes will be cut along with other things with the new budget. Florida schools are not looking good:

Layoffs 'Very, Very Likely' At USF

I also think that getting out of your home state will be a good experience. I'm finishing up my AA and might transfer to USF this year, but I'm a working adult, Navy veteran, and not from Florida. I like St. Petersburg, but Louisville seems to have a lot to offer as far as jobs, culture, opportunities, etc. If you end up at USF, look at the St. Pete campus. There's a lot more going on than people think on this side of the bridge.

At the very least, pay Loisville a visit. I haven't yet, but I have friends there and plan to. And you have to say it like "Lou-uh-vool."
