Louisville job market
HI again all- Just following up on my questions of a few months ago regarding the Louisville market. After almost 3 months of being out of work, i am at my wits end with the WI job market. 12 interviews, 2 second and 1 third interview, and still nothing. One company had me on a 5 hr interview, and 45 days later made a decision that they would go with a part timer who used to work for them. another company after 3 interviews told me I was their top choice. The nothing, no returned follow-up call or anything. After 2 weeks I called again and was told another great candidate just came in out of nowhere, but hadn;t officially accepted their offer, but I'm choice # 2 The other companies were so over picky that their job remain unfilled to this day.
I hope the L'ville market is better than this nonsense. I realize things are tight all over, but it has to be better than Wi. I have applied to over 300 jobs in 3 months and only had the 12 interviews, even after having my resume professionally done. I was thinking that come around May if I didn;t have any promising leads here that I would just move to Louisville and start fresh. I am
registered with a few recruiters in the area already, and feel by then I'd have nothing to lose, as my UI would run out anyways, and by living in L'ville, I'd have at least a fighting chance to get something, as opposed to this WI nonsense, where it appears no one has much of a chance unless you have an impossibly long set of qualifications.
Is the market at least respectable there? As I mentioned earlier, I have over 7 years in purchasing/inventory control with mfg, and electronic distributon backgrounds, also 5 years in banking. THanks for any input.

I am going to be really tough here. Please don't take offense, but do a review of yourself and your job hunt. Odds are that you are not presenting yourself to a business in a manner that they see you as a top candidate. There are many issues at stake and I know none of your attributes, please don't defend yourself here, but if I were you, I would sit down with someone who can help you market yourself better. Maybe it's your clothing, the right clothing at an interview means so much, so often. If you don't own "Dressing for Success" go get a copy. There is one for men and one for women.
Is your resume' telling an employer what they want to know about you? It might be telling too much, or not enough. Spin is legal here. Your resume' has one purpose. While it must be honest and accurate, it's sole function is to get you to the interview.
Louisville will expect you to be "employable." If there are 20, 100, or 500, or even thousands of applicants for one job, you must be properly educated, clear in communication, and deserving of the job by being capable of performing for the business in exchange for the pay they will provide.
If sadly, you were a student of the non-competitive modern NEA model education system, then you now understand why competition for better grades, even athletically is so important.
I hope that I have helped you with some tough love.

To answer your question, yes, the economy is MUCH better in Louisville than almost anywhere in the Midwest. In wisconsin, Madison has a decent economy but that is about it....
