Interesting!
Looks like brass. I'd get some brass polish and see what it looks like after the tarnish is gone.
Is it hollow?

If you open it, it might have a toy surprise inside, like Cracker Jacks used to have.

Depending on what it actually is (which we obviously don't know), polishing it could decrease the value if it actually was valuable

Hm. True.
Could be from the sixties when lots of brass trinkets were popular or from the 1500s how cool would that be.

Is there holes or exhaust ports?
It could be a replica of a working Hero Steam Engine which dates back to 400 B.C.
Or if solid just a ornate orb that sat on a stand or base.

Try posting this in the antiques and collectible forum, over in the Hobbies area. Good luck identifying your interesting find. It looks to me as if it might have been made in India, but unless it's simply a decorative item, I have no idea what it is.
