Default Lightrail

I was wondering what happened to this... Louisville really needs a lightrail or a monorail or any other kind of mass transit other than the TARC. I hate the TARC.

Restoring Amtrak service is important too.

A line from downtown passing through UL, Churchill Downs, and then going to the Airport would be nice.

The problem with the light rail proposal was it went down I-65 instead of connecting areas of high population density. A line going down the old street car lines like Frankfort Ave, Bardstown Rd, or 3rd Street/ Southern Pky would work, as would one connecting these areas along ALt 60 would also work. Unfortunatly, these areas weren't considered in the original proposal

It takes leadership to accomplish such a major change in commuting. Leadership often requires courage and selflessness. Unfortunately, most people of the Louisville area either have never been in DC, Chicago, NYC, etc for rush hour. Hundreds of thousands are transported at extremely low costs in a short amount of time, and people get to keep their personal automobiles for weekends, shopping, etc.

A mono-rail system would require little if any additional land, could be financed so commuters would effectively get to and from work for 1/2 their costs now. When the cost of fuel, tires, maintenance, parking, and insurance is calculated, I would estimate the cost of even the cheapest solo commute to be $7-8 per day. I would use a monorail from Oldham County to Mayor Jerry's downtown often.
