I remember a fellow from NY moving in across the street saying to me, "I can't believe that youse guys really say y'all down here!" All a matter of perspective.

(I think the comment about "smoking out them Yankees" was a joke. We haven't smoked out any Yankees since John Hunt Morgan invaded Cynthiana.)

Apparantly not. Neither do they teach captialization nor proper spelling. Reasoning skills and the ability to embrace diversity by not stereotyping people/religion, seems to earn a failing grade in the CA school system as displayed by the poster. Keep your charm Ville. You guys have my vote.

I like the Northerns I meet in the North, but most of the ones that move to KY are uppity, snobby, and elitest. They want to move here for our low taxes and low crime, but constantly complain about our way of life.

Everyone in my family has a brush pile and/ or a compost pile in their yard - it is a way of saving stuff that would otherwise be thrown away. The yankees in behind my yard seemed to think it didn't look good near their stupid rock garden. That dude had a riding lawn mower for a yard that couldn't have been more than 30 square yards - talk about a wimp!

My grandpa always had a brushpile and a compost heap, and we grew up in the North. I'll admit, I had to get rid of a lot of preconceived notions I had, but I loved living in the South and I left my uppity ways at the Mason-Dixon line. I'll agree with you though...lots of people fleeing their area only to come somewhere else and try to make it just like the place they left. Makes no sense to me.

I see people with their riding mowers in tiny yards all the time. I just assume (or hope) it is because they are disabled and not because they are just plain lazy

My husband and I relocated (retired) a week ago from Southern California. We have visited Kentucky often and stayed for 2 to 3 weeks each time....we feel we have died and gone to heaven. We bought a house in Hunting Creek 2 days after we arrived. The beauty here is just unbelievable. What Kentuckians consider heavy traffc, we consider no traffic...each and every person we have encountered has been delightful, friendly and kind. The weather has been much more temperate that we anticipated and we can hardly wait to get into our new house and get settled. We were happy in California....we would probably be happy any place we were but we are really having a fabulous time in Louisville.

One interesting note - in So. California (near the beach with no air conditioning) we were paying an average of (for a 1700 s.f. house with just 2 people living there) $145 a month for electricity and $135 for gas...plus water and trash....the much larger home we are moving to averages $140 month in the summer for gas and electricity combined (which includes running an air conditioner or furnace during much of the year) and $235 a month during the winter....yipee!

Count us among the "clueless" I guess :-)
