I'm curious what was going on the weekend you wrote this (june 6). I checked Travelocity for Saturday Sept 9 and there was plenty of availability at downtown hotels in the $114 - $179 range. These are name brand hotels like Sheraton, Hilton, Fairfield, Holiday Inn and Aloft.

It's the same range for the following weekend, so this is not entirely last minute specials.

I wish Louisville Tourism would stop promoting 4th Street Live as much as they do. 4th street live is one of the most corporate feeling, shove down your throat tourist traps I have ever been too and it's sad that many tourists think it's the main attraction in Louisville.
