Red face Relo to Louisville, worried, HELP!

My husband has been transferred to Louisville and we move in May. Currently we live in a town with 1 elem. school and 1 middle/high school combo. My husband works away from home and is only home on weekends. Is there anywhere that we can live for between 125 and 150K that I will feel safe home alone, or are all of these price range areas in bad parts of town? I also looked at the Valus in at Commerce Park as a place to stay when I come to house hunt. Is that an OK area for me alone? I know this sounds silly but I am just a little concerned.

Hun I am sure that you are a bit worried but you should be fine. You can easily find a house in that price range in the PRP area in a decent neighborhood. Try looking in the 40258 or 40272 areas. I could try and help you more but I need more detail.... kids? Ages?

I have four altogether. One is out of the house but plans to make the move also. They are 20,14,9 and 5. What is the PRP area? Probably something that will make perfect sense once I hear it. I have been researching schools and boy, Jefferson County sounds like it is going to take me a year to figure the school system out. Thanks for your help.

You are coming to Louisville and you will be ok. So will your kids. As a real estate broker, I can assure you that your concerns can all be cared for in a positive acceptable way. There are so many opportunities for living in the Louisville MSA (metropolitan statistical area). Your options are great! There are some wonderful Realtors in the area to serve you.

btw: PRP=Pleasure Ridge Park, a post WWII community about 1/2 way between I-264 and I-265 along Dixie Hwy (US 31-W).

I am looking forward to the move, I put in for his transfer. I think it will be great for the kids to have more options in their lives. As you can imagine the 14 year old is quite upset. I hope that the skatepark and having more people around will help his mood. Right now I have to drive him into TOWN (one street, no stoplight) (yes, it is that small) in order for him to do anything, and then all there is to do is sit at the local pizza place.

Try the east end. The south end is a bit "low-rent". Anywhere around the Middletown area is nice, and have better schools.

LOL! Turning 25 will help him with his mood...of course, he probably thinks he's just as good as a 25-year-old! The skatepark should help. I love Louisville, although I've never lived there. Much good luck to you!!

You will want to consider Oldham County. 3 kids in school makes Oldham County a "must look at." I recommend that you click on to Welcome to OldhamCounty.com! for a tour of the county and it all offers.

It is Pleasure Ridge Park and if you get the chance, enroll your children in the traditional school program as it is the best free public school program in Louisville by far.

She won't get half the house for what she wants to pay there and apparently you know little about the "low rent" South end.
