No doubt Clarksdale/Liberty Green is safer....all the drug dealers, gang members and thugs were upgraded to nicer homes so they could tear them up (in Old Louisville and others).

The police and the mayors office swear vehemently that tearing down the projects didn't displace the thugs, but where in the hell do they think they went? I doubt they all retired.

Maybe we should all get togther and hug a thug.

Dunno about the law-abiding folks, but some of the displaced criminals went right out to the suburbs, as I'm sure censusdata can show with crime maps pre and post the tear-down. With all the construction going on, the burgeoning vibrancy of East Market, and that some of the wealthiest people in the city live just a stone's throw away, why the concern for children or adults? Being downtown, much less inside 264, is a superior situation as far as I'm concerned. As gas prices continue up, that factor alone is likely going to convince more and more people to reconsider.

I have a close-up aquaintance with the old Clarksdale as 28 years ago I was working for a firm that did a renovation of the projects as a summer job. Here I was, tie, chinos, button down shirt, clipboard and blueprints, walking around in the projects and marking up the drawings as to the outside conditions...cracks on sidewalk, gutter issues, etc.

So when I returned recently to check out the area I was dumbfounded. The entire projects is GONE. They are totally gone. And then there is that new stuff happening across the street on Jefferson and Market.

This neighborhood is probably not as bad as it used to be, though i question the situation down in Smoketown/Shelby Park. Yet these areas are somewhat sperated from Clarksdale, er, Liberty Green, by Broadway and the med center and the commercial stuff that sort of seperates residential areas in that part of town.

I'd say this area is becoming more tied to Market Street and Butchertown rather than to Smoketown and points south of Broadway.
