Louisville is far from flawless. But, to "grade" people is beyond absurd and downright appalling. Your back-pedal is petty. In Louisville, you can find people of all walks of life, and each add to society in their own way. You're smugness and elitest attitude is shows a great disregard for humans not like you. Funny. Weren't you just complaining about small town attitudes that have intollerance for people not like them?

I think you're being too kind. While I believe the state does have serious budget and allocation issues, most of what the author said is outright crap. His characterization of the rest of the state does nothing but perpetuate an inaccurate and offensive stereotype. Seriously, he needs to get has latte sipping ass out of his posh condo, hop into his beamer, and drive beyond Louisville's city limits to learn what the rest of the state and its people are really like. This kind of elitist BS isn't going to earn Louisvillians any sympathy or respect from rural kentuckians or those who live in other developed areas of the state.

For heaven's sake, people play cornhole (bean bag toss) and one of the derby events is a bed race. Some may find that kind of thing appealing. Some may find the dry counties of Kentucky also appealing. I guess it takes all kinds.
As far as rating the people, surely it's obvious that some cities are high caliber and some are not (compare Paris and Detroit, for example). Louisville, as I see it, is a C level city, advancing toward probably being a good strong B+ city. It's hard to fault what the mayor's doing (other than the neon monstrosity called 4th Street Live) and one of the charms of the city is the locally owned businesses. Construction downtown seems to speak to much potential. This is one of the few cities in the country of this size with good historic housing stock and affordable first time homebuyer prices.
I'm calling it like I see it. You may find that insulting, but I see a city moving toward improvement. I do find it interesting that most anyone I speak with (in person) finds it stunning that someone would move here (apparently not thinking much of their hometown) but yet the online people are knee-jerk about perceived insults. There are reasons that people, for years, moved away from Louisville for jobs, culture, and a better lifestyle. How is that a surprise? Why do you think real estate has been so inexpensive here? No demand, of course. The good thing is that Louisville's better days seem to be ahead.

Almost any mid sized city is like that, and I have lived all over. Louisville has as much potential as any place I have lived. I think people had a problem with your smugness of "grading" people. Anywho, if you want to meet like minded people, there are some great meetups in Louisville at Meetup: World's largest community of local Meetups, clubs and groups! - Meetup.com . Everything from a great salsa group to boardgames to witches to atheists. Like it or not, there IS a little bit of everything here.

Yes, I read the article. I was just stating that it is absurd to think that Louisville could exist as a city-state. So your choices are: be part of KY or part of IN.

Regardless, I'm sorry if you can't find a smart and attractive person here for your liking. Maybe your smug attitude is a reason? I don't know, you seem so pleasant. That couldn't possibly be the reason. It must just "B" that there are so many lesser people here that it's impossible for them to fully appreciate what a quality person you must be. I can definitely "C" that.

I don't understand why the rural Kentuckians should care what the urbanites and yankee transplants think. I have said it more than once and will keep repeating it... if ya don't like it, you are more than free to go.

Meeting groups online is much different than meeting people in person. Having to seek people online indicates there isn't enough local interest. I'm sure that Louisville has a variety of people (I've met some that are out of the ordinary), but certain groups will never form because their numbers are insignificantly low.

They shouldn't care. I think the point was that certain types of people are through caring about the rural areas...because they impede progress.
Do you realize that you just did the whole "Don't like it, get out!!" thing a couple of us mentioned? Just curious...
Besides, none of those who agree with the LEO article really consider the Southwest/Dixie Highway end of town (your neck of the woods) to fall on their radar of "places to live", so you're safe from those pesky types.
