Need a great idea of where to have a party in May. We will have about 75 people. Trying to avoid any wedding halls.
We want good food and good alcohol, especially micro brew or imported beer. We cannot have the party in a place that restricts the type of beverages that are served, so our options limited.
I don't have a preference to location, but want to stay around Louisville, or in a nearby town with accommodations. Does anyone have a suggestion? Have you been to a great party in town and can recommend a site?

Don't laugh, but the zoo has a great party room. But you may have to buy dinner, etc, there. They even bring animals in to the room to pet.

Belle of Louisville is also fun, but again, you have to buy from them. Churchill Downs if you have a little more money. I've also been to a more laid back one at Slugger Field, and that was fun. John E's has a decent party room upstairs.

Anyway, here are 133 places to choose from!

I would really try one of the smaller ballrooms here:

Welcome to the Henry Clay

It is perhaps the most beautiful bldg in the city and it is right downtown, with multiple options for rooms large and small...may I mention the lobby is a real jewel, and Eddie at Taste of Morocco, a ground floor retail store, often cooks up some mean food and caters it for cheap (and he is damn good).

That is true and you can have it catered from where you want and can have alcohol (I am not too sure about the rules there though). You can also do it any time of year as there are indoor facilities along with a very large tent at the top of the hill. Louisville Zoo - Group Sales - Facilities Index

Claudia Sanders Dinner House - History

I had my rehearsal dinner at the old dinner house in 92; it looks like the new one is even lovelier, and I've never heard a bad word about the food.

Good idea - out in the country, large, good prices, not gourmet but very decent food.

This is the opposite of what we are looking for. We are specifically looking for a place that has micro brewed beer and food a little more upscale. If I can't find a restaurant that has it, I need to find a rental that will let me bring in our own.

The theme of the party is delicious beer and the foods that go well with them.

I was under the impression from their website that we had to order their catering and pay for a minimum of 100 plates of it. I do love the zoo, though.

You'd have to call them and ask the rules for sure.
