I live in Mayfield, in western Kentucky. When somebody new moves in the neighborhood it doesn't take long for neighbors to stop by and say hello.

I grew up in Louisville, and there were times when I was younger that I didn't have a lot of money to spend on things to do ....that was the great thing about Louisville, it seems there was always some really great things to do that were free or very low cost!!!
I loved going to see Shakespeare in Central Park
also the Free Movies at Iroquois Park. .
I went to some plays at Actors Theatre and honestly I don't remember it being all that
expensive.
From time to time there are free concerts....or fireworks.
On April 21 st check out Thunder over Louisville.
But we also love the outdoors and hiking and stuff....lots to do in Louisville if you love nature, the outdoors and Hiking.
It seems like there was always a free festival or event going on when we lived there...
Go to one of the wonderful Louisville Parks and have a picnic!
Cherokee Park,
Go downtown one day to the Waterfront Park and take a walk on the Pedestrian Bridge
https://louisvillewaterfront.com/exp.../big-4-bridge/
Go to the Louisville Free Library or any of it's branches, and check out a book or exhibit

But to meet people you will have to get yourself out and about, because how will you ever meet
friends if you don't? (My Dad was in the Air Force...so we moved a lot when I was a child...you have to go to things and work at it, when you move to a new place. But you are lucky, Louisville
can be a very friendly place in comparison to a lot of other places that I have lived.)

Like I said lots of free or very low cost things to do in Louisville.

Good Luck....just get out there and have some fun, if you get out and about enough you
will enjoy your time in louisville with each other much more, and eventually you will get to meet
others.

If you like board games, most cities have places where people meet up and play RPG's or board games. Usually the shops that sell the games, sponsor
free or low cost game nights...

I hope you are able to get out and explore and play and meet some people!

You really just need to go out and meet people. Say hi....people are very friendly indeed but you are going to have to make an effort. It's like that ANYWHERE You live.

meetup.com is excellent advice.

Saying meetups are "mostly for drinking" is simply not accurate. Louisville has hundreds of meetups and statistically speaking, most aren't drinking. Are we looking at the same site?

This is no offense to you, but based on your posts, I think the Louisville nerd meetup is best for you:
https://www.meetup.com/NerdLouisvillePresents/

Lots of members, free, and they play games.
Also, various "dating" websites such as bumble have applications for meeting friends only. Craigslist also has meetups for anything you can dream of, most of it NON drinking.

If you arent't religious, there's a meetup for atheists. Not atheist? There's wiccan. This is a metro area of 1.3 million people...I guarantee there is someone else in your shoes, probably with your interests. With the internet, I simply don't understand these posts (sorry if that seems rude)

You can join any number of theatre or colunteer groups. Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Metro United Way are two to name a few.

Louisville even has a dedicated Board Game shop...stop in there, the owner is super friendly and will direct you around to like minded souls. Also, if you are living in a suburban apartment complex where you drive in, park, then walk up to your second floor unit....move to the walkable, urban Highlands.
Good luck to you and hopefully you meet some people. Put yourself out there!
