I am considering moving to Louisville. I was born there my parents and all their family lived or live there. I have visited a few times but has been many years. I have a disability and don't drive. Looking at the website I have no idea what the area is like the low income senior housing is located in. I would need to use a taxi or maybe a bus. Although I don't think in the future I will be able to use a bus. If things continue health wise to get worse. I would like input from anyone who lives in low income housing or has a parent or grandparent who lives in one.

I can't speak to the housing issue, but as far as the transportation issue is concerned, have you ever used paratransit services for your transportation needs? Louisville has a pretty decent paratransit system. Senior housing is all over town, and if you have reliable transit, suddenly you've also solved a lot of the "where to live" questions. You might want to investigate that resource, and factor it into your factorations.

Best of luck. I work extensively with seniors and disabled here in Kaintuck. If there's anything else you're wondering about that I do have knowledge of, I'll be glad to help wherever I can. I'll watch the thread and try to stay engaged.

The information you give helps. I am in Florida and my city does have handicap transportation. But just in the city. If a person lives out of city limits nothing exist. Most of the senior housing has some transportation. We have a very long waiting list here at least 3 years. I have already been on one waiting list 3 years. If you have any information on actual housing apartments you think are good it would be appreciated. Do you know how long the waiting lists are there? I read that crime is bad in Louisville. I don't go out at night but what about during the day? Do you have a lot of crime against seniors? thanks for the information.

This is pretty false.

Crime in Louisville is generally relegated to one side of town (West of Interstate 65), and while many of those areas can be war zones from drugs and poverty and whatnot, it very rarely crosses the 9th street border into the main part of downtown and points eastward, and you'll rarely if ever have a reason to cross that border yourself.

The only exceptions to the rule I know of is the area of West Buechel, and to a much lesser degree, the neighborhood called Coldstream in the East End near the Ford Plant.

You're in the worst state for crimes against seniors right now, so anywhere you move is going to be better. I don't know of very many issues here where seniors are targeted. In fact, you'll find that most people here are going to be exceedingly friendly to seniors.

Again, excellent advice from Servo. Louisville remains one of the safest top 50 cities, and is safer than most anywhere in FL except rural areas.
