Hi guys,

I got a job offer in Louisville and I'm trying to figure out if it's enough to live on comfortably.

Pre-tax it's 50,000 or roughly 38,000 post-tax.

I'm single, have two cats (which will impact rent), and own my own car. I spend most of my money on food, my cats, and I'm going to need to update my work uniform so-to-speak.

Also, what are "safe" areas in Louisville? I'm looking at an apartment complex around Bashford Mannor...?

At 38k a year I don't think I can really afford 1k/month rent with student loans.

Thanks!

Bashford Manor is a no go. Not unsafe but not safe either. 38k is PLENTY in Louisville.

You belong in the Highlands, St Matthews, or Crescent Hill if single. I can find what you need for $800/mo

Bashford Manor ainít the worst choice but shouldnít be a first choice. Your salary will fetch you a pretty decent standard of living in the 502. Depending on where you work Iíd recommend St Matthews, Lyndon, The Hurstbourne Pky area, and Crescent Hill. Iím a big fan of Old Louisville myself but it is more hit or miss than the other areas I mentioned. I also like Beechmont which doesnít get a lot of attention but Iíd have no issue living there.

Thank you, both of you! I'll look into those areas. I'm trying to keep my rent 800 or less per month at least for the first year.
