Is there any way to rally the area to get its own police force? security guards? Cameras? Print up flyers about how the recent crimes are tearing the neighborhood down and everyone including the parents of these local kids need to do something and staple them to every single light post in the area, what would that cost 10$? Call a meeting at a VFW or applebees.

Id imagine it would have an impact and might also let some people that dont know whats going on.

This crap is so easily dealt with its ridiculous. But its just not bad enough for people to turn off American idol get off their asses to do and be about something.

A security guard that makes 24k (good pay so you would get a good one) a year with a 15k ford focus with a light on it would cost a area of 2k people about 20$ a year. Id pay a over 1000 dollars a year myself to keep my neighborhood safe.

Go to hillview city hall they can tell you how to do it.
Number one: I have never watched "American Idol," for the record. Not so much as a single episode.

We HAVE a neighborhood watch; it was neighbors who tracked the kids moving house to house, it was neighbors who called the police. Short of taking on the thieves physically (which would be a bad idea if they were minors) what would you suggest they could have done differently? The report I filed was taken over the telephone. When I finally got through at the LMPD to a human being I was told that it "takes a couple of days" for that report to reach someone? And that they're switching computer systems so he couldn't retrieve the information on the initial calls. He didn't even know that my break-in was related to the others. I repeated the information I knew to him, and he immediately went, "Sounds like kids" and seemed uninterested.

As for your flyer idea? I did that Saturday- printed up details of the break-ins, what was stolen at my home, and posted them all throughout the neighborhood. I phoned every pawnshop in the phonebook and gave them details of the stolen ipod. I've posted the information on craigslist and the local freecycle chat group. I reported the theft to Apple, I posted the details to every website I could find that maintains a database of stolen ipods. Right now, toss the serial number or my email into google and the first thing that comes up is the theft. I think I've done everything I can possibly do, now it's up to the police to do what they can.

When I was living in Tx, there was a string of car vandalism (bored teens during a long summer). They hauled bricks through several windshields in my neighborhood, including mine. The police were quin.ck to respond but equally as quick to admit that more than likely, the perpetrators would not be caught. Coming out to take the police report was a formality.

For a security guard 24k is very decent. Most of them make about 7$ an hour.

Nmissi, the american idol comment was for your neighbors, you are obviously doing your part, if you had about 20 more people in your neighborhood that were like you things like this wouldnt even happen, i get that this isnt dealing drugs but like barney says, nip it in the bud. If its made a big deal out of every time then it will be a big deal

This is sad to hear. I currently live in another city in a neighborhood like Old Louisville. Our neighborhood group works with a local cop who keeps an eye on the neighborhood and asks that we call him to report any suspicious activity. When we do, a plainclothes cop is sitting in a car watching within the hour.

But we have returned to neighborhood beat cops here, and it's working pretty well.

It seems that most of Louisville's money goes to the East end and downtown and those of us in the South end are left to ourselves quite a bit. I hope this will improve.

Actually, most of Louisville's expenses occur in the lower property valued areas. More fires, crime, and explotiation of EMS for non-emergency usage means that the East end gets parks, and other perks that are not absorbed in city services.

What you say however, is a perfect example of why I became a Republican. Why should I send my hardearned tax dollars to a central government so that someone can have the power to redistribute to where they want the money to go rather than where it might really be needed most.

I have heard the same fuss from other southend residents too. If they made Dixie look as nice as they do Downtown and anywhere in the East end, it would really be nice The greenwood boatdocks (what the mayor calls riverview park though no one else does) project has stopped dead in its tracks and did so about six months after it started. Why?

Several years ago a local leader suggested that he would lead a fight to have the western portion of Louisville succeed from Louisville. I first saw this watching the 11 pm news... I sat up in bed and threw my fist up with a big "yes"

Simply because western Louisville is a cost item for Louisville. The other areas of Louisville must pay for the expenses such as fire protection, police, etc. for that part of the city.
