Default Furniture thrift and auctions

I like to buy furniture from auctions and estate sales, yard sales and thrift stores, fix it up and have a great piece of real wood furniture from the days when furniture was furniture instead of particle board or beyond my current budget.

Where'd be a good place to look for such thrift stores and junque shoppes--you know those places that aren't junk shops but aren't really antique stores either.

Go to TheThriftShopper.Com Thrift Store Directory Listing Thrift Shops and type in Louisville, KY. There are also lots of Peddler's malls around. There is a J-town Mall of Vendors in J-town. And there's also a good place in Lagrange, KY (down the road a bit) right off the interstate (can't think of the name of it, though).

There are auctions around and I have a neighbor who "dumpster dives". Well, ok not really in dumpsters but looks for things thrown out and refurbishes them.

Louisville is consignment heaven, particularly for clothes (Margaret's is amazing). Many of the clothing places also have furniture and furnishings: our favorite for furniture is the Clothes Horse on Breckenridge, but Margaret's on Frankfort Ave and One for All on Douglas Blvd also have stuff. You can find some bargains at the Antique Mall on Broadway and the redone one on Goss Ave.

Someone mentioned the Peddlar's Marts. I think the one out in Middletown - on Shelbyville Road, is the best of the bunch.

Our real favorite, Sell it Again, Sam, on Westport has, alas, closed.
