Default Atlanta to Louisville

I am moving in about 3 months from Atlanta to Louisville for work. I have spent about 2 weeks in the city visiting for football games and weddings, but do not possess any real knowledge about it. Im a 27 yr single guy and would like to live where there is some action since I wont know anyone. I plan on renting for a year and then buying once I find the right area. All opinions are greatly appreciated and thanks for your time.

Mac,

You will get lots of opinions here. I am the most unqualified since I am an old geezer and I don't party harty any more. Unfortunately, your post doesn't give enough information for a proper response by anyone. Here is what is missing:

1. Your budget.
2. Your work location (for commuting purposes)
3. Do you have any special needs other than a place with action. Please be more descriptive of what you mean by "action."

Tomocox,

Thanks for the reply. Its appreciated. My office will be on Gardner Lane. My budget is btwn 800-1500. What I mean by action is that since I will not no anyone, I would like to be close to bars, coffee shops, shopping, restaraunts, etc. I am way past the "party" stage, but I like to be surrounded by options. Thanks again for the post.

The Highlands is the preimere urban neighborhood. It is pretty similar to Virgina Highland in ATL but IMO much more eclectic and "real." IMO it is more walkable and urban than anywhere in ATL (somewhat ironic huh?) Downtown Louisville has a "disneyland" like nightlife on fourth street not all too different from Buckhead. I enjoy downtown and believe it to be the most up and coming urban area, but not quite "there" yet. Old Louisville is just south of downtown and is the same way.

Many young professionals also enjoy the Frankfort Avenue corridor from Butchertown (Story Avenue) to Clifton to Crescent Hill, into the heart of St Matthews around a very popular pub called Brendan's. The most yuppie of this area is centered around lower Breckenridge and Willis Avenue which is old school subruban but still walkable. I see many young couples living there.

Still, by far the most happening, close to 24/7 place is the Highlands, and craigslist has some great options. In fact, this is a beautiful place at the epicenter of it all:

stx is spot on, as usual. Those are great neighborhoods for someone your age. And you might be pleasantly surprised at what you can get for less than $1,000 a month.

If I were your age and worked downtown, I'd give it real consideration. But I think you'd like the Frankfort Avenue or Bardstown Road areas.
