WAVE 3 TV Louisville, KY :: 2006 Louisville Metro Police Department Violent Crime Statistics The 6th District (NewBurg) isn't even close to Any of the Urban districts of louisville. Remember newburg is really a county area, not urban!

Emanresu you have no Idea what your talking about. I'm on the streets Downtown 24/7. The 4th Police District which covers Old Louisville, Downtown, Sheppherd Square, and To Iroquois Projects, is easily the most violent District In Louisville, Easily more violent then the west end 2nd District, and tied the 2nd District in 2006 for the most homicides in louisville. The 6th District Newburg/Norfolk/Goldsmithlane etc is 5th most dangerous. An they report most of the crime to police. 70% of robberies and assaults aren't reported to police in DownTown I'd say. I used to live in NewBurg Emanresu, before I became a street person, I also lived in Norfolk. You must be out of your mind, if you think NewBurg is more dangerous then Downtown. Really your walking around Downtown at night? Well go South of Broadway down 1st street past Thorton's, Around the Salvation Army, around 2 in The Morning, your bound to be jumped by teenagers seeking thrills, or by street thugs. Come Down to Salvation Army I can take you to 6 people who have been jumped and beaten in the last 2 days. Per example Gary and another fellow, walking on crossing the dirt/grass parking lot to first street to get across the street to Seven Counties building. A group of 5 to 6 18 to 22 year olds some on bikes, jumped out and beat the living hell out of them, and robbed them. The other guy is still in the hospital. A guy sitting on the bench at the librairy at 1 am, beating, by a group of teenagers pretty badly. Guy walking on breckinridge street, walking down the street some guy came up behind him and robbed him an assaulted him. But the guy fought back, and has a broken Arm with a cast on it. An 2 other guys assaulted at the riverfront sleeping on benchs, could introduce you to them, and let them show you there knocked out teeth, and bruised faces if you want?

I lived in the West End, and have people all over the West End. My friend Keith Reed, got killed, whom I grew up with, that was a pretty big set back for me. But your chances of being assaulted are easily the greatest if your on the streets downtown at night.

Ah emanresu, Statistics, here you Go.

Infact if louisville Didn't Merge, they would be a pretty dangerous city right now. Hell 61 murders in 2004 where in the original city limits, estimiated population for original city limits where 61 people got slain in 244,000. About 25 people per 100,000 got killed in 2004 in the real city limits of louisville. The actually city of louisville per example in 2004 had a pretty high murder rate. The merger really distorts how dangerous louisville is. Take a look at district 1, 2, 3 and 4, originally city limits, now take a look at the new county districts, metro louisville, take those away, and have the originally city of louisville, louisville's not such a nice place, like some of you all are claiming. Infact I'm reviewing statistics of the original city limits of louisville before 2003, and 2 years after 2003 louisville would of made the most dangerous 25 cities in America, if not for the merger.

Newburg would actually make louisville safer. If you took the real city limits of louisville 244,000 people now, and added the 21,000 newburg residents, louisville would actually befome a safer community. Newburg is a county (NON CITY) neighborhood.

You're statistics are bogus because the ones that include downtown are not downtown alone. You are including some pretty rough areas when including downtown. Prospect would look pretty rough if you lumped Iroquois and Shepard's Square in with them. But, I'm not. Nor do I include Iroquois and Old Louisville, or Park Hill for that matter, in the downtown area. Shepard's Square is on the fringe. Thus, if it is 1 a.m., I have no problem leaving a restaurant, play, concert, or bar at any of the popular venues and walking to my car. Yes, you must use common sense at all times at night. You should do that walking up Bardstown Rd. or Frankfort Ave. Sadly, it is a fact of urban life. That does not make it dangerous. If you enjoy an urban lifestyle, Louisville is no more dangerous than any other city, and is in fact, much safer than most. If you prefer an autocentric suburb, you can find those in any city in the country.

I have to agree. If we are talking about the downtown business district, I have never had one problem.

Exactly. Sure, there are parts of Louisville I would not walk at night. There are parts of Chicago I would not walk at night. There are parts of Cincinnati I would not walk at night. And on and on. But to imply that downtown Louisville is like NYC in the 70's is not accurate, imo.

Why is it that no one has mentioned Fairdale. Fairdale has almost no crime. the big crime in Fairdale is vandalism performed by teens. Fairdale is about 20 minutes from downtown, 30 minutes from Prospect and about 1 hour from Fort Knox. The cost apartments and houses are pretty reasonable and you can choose from farm to upscale house with small yard. There are not a lot of apartments, but there are new condos on West Manslick for just $99000. Fairdale is small town living close to the city. You CAN walk the streets at night (although there is not really any where to walk to after 10:00) Fairdale also has the largest municipal forest in the country. You should check out Fairdale (even if you have already relocated).

Yeah I love Fairdale. One of my best friends live there are we almost bought a house out there. We also tend to frequent the Tom Wallace part of Jefferson Memorial forest. I also went to the Pic-Pac out there and they have selections of things you just can't find at kroger (like frozen fried green tomatos!)

AlanBoy395,

The easy thing to remember when you come to Louisville is this, stay away from the West End. That is where 85 percent of the crime in Louisville is. I would say anything north of the HWY 31/I-265 intersection and 10 miles up 31W is the place to avoid. The Rent in the East End will be higher then the west end, but the area and people is better and the crime is much, much lower. I work at Fort Knox and live 37 miles from the post and it takes me about 40-45 minutes to drive. Believe it or not, I only have 8 traffic lights from my house to the post.

I think one of the best areas to look for an apartment is along Shelbyville road near the two large malls (Oxmoor and Mall St. Mattews). You should be able to find something there in the 600-900 dollar a month range for a 1 or 2 bedroom apt.

Good luck.

I'm glad that you like Fairdale. You should have bougth that house. You would have loved it. The other parks are great too. You can camp up in the top part (it's primative camping though). I've never noticed the frozen green tomatoes. Next time you're at Tom Wallace you should stop at Mitchell Hill Cafe' (It's on the same road that takes you to Tom Wallace). I work there. We have things like chicken fried and country fried steak and chicken livers. The Kid's menu is good too.

I have passed by it several times.. one of these times I'll stop :-)

I would have bought the house except the rooms were tiny. It did have horse rings and a barn but there was too much money that had to be put into it. Soooo, I ended up between PRP and Shively

Well.. all I can really say about Louisville is good things, besides the upscale shopping, but that is coming.

Oh. and about the Southwestern part of Louisville it is a pretty nice place to live some parts are def. nicer than others, i currently live in the area, and i find it better than the east end, b/c i am in a neighborhood with homes nearing the $250,000-$600,000 mark and it is up on some of the most beautiful hills in the city, with a view of downtown.. It is called Parkridge. Their are many nice new condo's and new neighborhoods springing up all over the place. Most of the nicest(upscale) Neighborhoods are on the Eastern Side of Dixie Highway (31-W) but you can also find homes from $175,000-$320,000 on the Western Side. In Whole the area is getting alot nicer.
