can you tell me what the zip codes are for that area...st matthews?? I cannot find a map to come up. I have read that 40219, 40228, 40229, 40031 are good. Do they suit our needs??
No.
St matthews is 40207. How can you not find st matthews? You can find it on any map. Just google it.
You will also want to look at 40204, 40205, 40206 given your criteria. If you want to look at some suburbs 40059 is my favorite.
sorry about the st matthews issue. I was looking at houses and was wondering about thomas jefferson HS. Also 40214, 40245,40242 on Malvern Hill court????
Mostly we found this place in 40219 on villa park drive. Southern MS thomas jefferson HS. Any idea on these schools?
I found that looking on rentalhouse.com and then using this neighborhoodlink.com - you can put in the zip codes and then it tells you the demographics of the location. Its pretty useful.
I looked in the St matthews area and they have only a few houses and they are over one thousand to rent. I am curious if the local newspaper might have more to rent than looking for companies that rent. My credit is not so great right now so I worry that they wont rent to me. Ive rented my whole adult life however.
I am looking for a suburb that is safe for 2 elementery school girls used to country living. I would be looking for a two bedroom apartment that doesn't cost a lot. I have a vehicle but I'd like to have some information on the public transportation system. I would really appreciate any help in answering my questions. It is a hard choice to relocate and a helping hand would feel wonderful.

never heard of thomas jefferson hs. 40219 is not bad, but there are much better areas. you get what you pay for. 40207 is infinitely nicer. get on craigslist. you can find 3 bedroom house rentals in st matthews for under 1000.
Possible move from Terre Haute, IN to Louisville:
-Where you are working (Would be working at U of L)
-How much you are willing to spend on housing (since I would be new to area, looking to rent first then buy (100 - 200k)
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate (1/2 hour - 45 minutes)
-If you have kids: Private school or public school? (2 elementary school age kids in Gifted/Talented program)
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight? (Prefer to know that we live in a big city - do not have to live downtown though...)
-Community amenities important to you ((parks), willing to drive and be members of museums and zoo)
-Pie or cake? (diabetic version of both)

Where should I start looking..?
This is tough. Are you doing private or public schools? Are local restaurants and art galleries, along with sports, theatre and culture important amenities to have within 10 minutes? Do you like walkable areas? Parks? recreation? old or new homes?
I believe in the public school system (unless my kids get a better education in the private school, I am Catholic). Love local restaurants (much better than chains), will go to a number of Bats games, Theater and art galleries and we will frequent the park system. Old/New homes not really an issue. I see great things about both.

You belong in the Highlands, likely somewhere near Lakeside swim club off Trevillian Way. I would also look in the Seneca Gardens neighborhood. JCPS has some good schools but it can be a bit tricky to get into. Louisville has one of the finest private Catholic school systems I have seen anywhere--there are several Blue Ribbon Excellence schools. St Agnes and St Rapheal would be two you could live behind, be in a great area, and walk to school with your children. You would also have all the great restaurants, art, theater, and art galleries nearby. Hope this helps! So, here are the zips to consider: 40204 40205 40206 40207. You may also want to check out Old Louisville, which is a great historic area on the edge of downtown. It has a bit higher crime rate but is not dangerous and has some of the most beautiful old mansions I have seen anywhere. The area is bounded by 7th street on the west, St Catherine on the North, Brook street on the east, and the University of Louisville on the South. The zip code demographics for this area are deceiving since it includes some not so hot areas across railroad tracks west of 7th street, and also some areas east of Brook that are not so good.
(note that I borrowed this thread from the VA forum, as we here are also getting bombarded with vague questions)
READ if you are asking about where to live in KY
There's been many threads recently from people requesting information on where to live in Louisville and suburbs. If you are about to post one of these information request threads, please include the following:
-Where you are working
-How much you are willing to spend on housing
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate
-If you have kids: Private school or public school?
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight?
-Community amenities important to you
-Pie or cake?
We on the Louisville forum would appreciate it if you included the above information in your initial post so you can get the information you want as quickly as possible and we would not have to repost the same questions for every thread. Thank you.
- If all goes well, I will be working at THE VA.
- I am willing to spend between $500 - 750 dollars for a one or two bedroom apt. I would rather stay in a spacious one bedrooom, than a tiny two bedroom. I don't want roommates. I would def prefer an apt or condo that is plush, and I am willing to pay more for that.
- Right now I commute about 35 mins so that or less is fine, although ideally I would like to be able to not drive to work at all.
- NO kids. Although I do have a two nieces and a nephew (13, 4, 6months) who will visit me occasionally and I would like to be a reasonable distance to places that would be safe and fun to take them.
-I want a neighborhood that is safe. That is most important. I prefer to live in the city. I am a young (25yo female) professional and I would prefer to live in a area that caters more to that. Being able to walk to the laundrymat, grocery store, etc would be cool since where I live now, I have to commute EVERYWHERE.
- I would prefer to have a fitness center, pool, and laundromat very close or on site.
-Hmmm, now I am I making this cake or pie or am I buying it from someone else? That DEF plays a part in which one I prefer. :-)
