On Covered Bridge Road, there is a subdivision called Hidden Falls Development. It is across from Nevel Meade Road, I think. It is surrounded on all four sides by “named farms.” The names are Parrish Farm, Craig Creek Farm, McMurry Farm, Hidden Bridge Farm, and Harris Farm. Are these actual working farms (dairy, pigs, horse, or corn/wheat/veggie farms)? Or is this just land that is still owned by the families?

Thank you.

There are at least a handful of large working farms left in Jefferson County, especially in the rural SE portion. Yes there IS land available in the "city" or at least in rural Jefferson County. Most of the NE county north and east of I-64 has been bought by developers and there are very few working farms, but there may be a couple.

There are "working farms" along Covered Bridge Road near Nevel Meade. I personally am aware of cow-calf operations in the area. For all you city folks, a cow-calf farm is one of Kentucky's notable industries as we birth, nurse, and raise beef calves for about 1 year or to between 400 & 500 lbs. They are then sold to "feed lots" where the calves are finished to 1000-1200 lbs after which they are slaughtered producing everything from steaks, roasts, ribs, even a hamburger or two. Also produced are huge quanities of leather, pet foods, and fertilizer.

Cow-calf operations are ideal neighbors for subdivisions as they are quiet operations without many odors or other nuisances.

Thanks folks. I couldn't really see anything with Google aerial. Street View goes down Covered Bridge Road, but when "I swing the camera around," I can't really see anything (no rows of crops, or horses, or cows). Again, thanks.

Addendum: Saw your post tomocox after I had posted my reply. Okay, cow operations. Thanks.

The ground around Nevel Meade is not suitable for row crops as it is too steep. I know the area very well. I would recommend looking at Maps.com :: World's largest map store :: wall maps, travel maps, atlases, digital maps and more. (http://live.maps.com - broken link) as it shows the features better than google.

Default Farms

These are mostly horse farms along with some cattle. I know Harris Farm is a very nice and well regarded horse riding facility with lessons and boarding.
