Homes near the Ford plant?
i've been using this forum for the last couple of months to get ideas about where to live and things to do in Louisville.
now i'm here and actually looking at homes. Most that are fitting both my price range, and my commute distance requirements are in the area off of chamberlain lane, between westport rd. and brownsboro rd. Can anyone give me an idea of the relative safety of this area? any idea about the crime rates and things of that nature? the ford plant is nearby, so i'm guessing that many of the employees live in this area of relatively low home prices. should i be concerned about anything looking in this area?
thank you for any input you can give.

its not a matter of your safety, but the homes in the area you described are lower in price then the other surrounding neighborhoods. the only neighborhoods id MAYBE look at if i were you would be Brownsboro Glen or Brownsboro Woods. id personally stay away from that area because i dont see any of those neighborhoods improving anytime soon. what is your price range and where is it that youll be commuting to?

I think you are 80-90% correct. Unfortunately, a two mile radius from the front door of the Ford Truck plant includes the duke's mixture of quality. From the highly dubious area's of Northumberton and Cold Stream to the eastern edges of Anchorage. We must not rule out the excellent quality of the Forest Springs developments, nor Indian Springs or White Blossom.
This is one area where the actual address is the key. You must not assume either way on this area of Louisville.

If your price range is in the low to mid 100's, I'd make sure to hug U.S.22 and Chamberlain Lane and I do mean hug. The closer you get to Walmart, the worse!

150k is my maximum. i'm looking for a 3 bedroom home.
i'll be commuting to carrollton, down by the power plant. i want to be near the city, but still within about 45 minutes of work.
i've asked before for neighborhoods, but was told things like st. mathews, which is not within 45 minutes....maybe exit to exit it is, but not in total.
would i be better off looking towards buckner in oldham? any other suggestions?
my concern is both safety/crime, and resale value retention. i'm coming from michigan, so i know first hand the dangers of living in any area that is dependent the auto industry.

There are a few somewhat dicey apartments in the suburb of Fincastle (generally along Murphy Lane) although I never remember hearing about any shootings or stabbings in that area. In the entire area north of I-64 and outside of I-264 (an area with nearly 200,000 residents) there has been only a couple a murders in the past 5 years, and all of them were domestic in nature.

your best bet is probably Crestwood or even La Grange. Neither are really that far from downtown Louisville even though they are in oldham county. La Grange is pretty much becoming a suburb of Louisville.

We live in the Coves which is just off Westport, and very near Hurstbourne. Although most homes here are around $190 or so, you may be able to find one in your price range.
Barring that, there are condos right next to us (Greystone manor, possibly?) which may fit into your price range.
Both neighborhoods are safe, well kept, family friendly, and very close to the beautiful Tom Sawyer park.
It's also only a five minute (or less) drive to the Ford plant.
