Default Roofer, Air Conditionng & Heating, Windows & Painting

If any of you Louisville area residents (we live in Prospect) have a good reference for good and honest companies (Heating & Air conditioning, roofer, windows & painting (interior), I would be very grateful.

Our roof is a good one with many more years in it, but the inspector we hired found that many of the shingles never had the plastic strip that covers the adhesive edge removed - so some of the shingles are completely loose on the leading edge - they need to be tarred down or something....so we just need a good handyman who can do that.

We are going to replace the furnace & air conditioner.

My husband and I would greatly appreciate any references you have for the repair resources we need - thanks!

Default Honesty in Home Repairs

Finding repairmen you can trust is challenging. I recently had some gutter work done by Middletown Roofing and am pleased with the result. They sent a fellow out to do the estimate. It was reasonable and I contracted them to do the work.

The day of the work, I had to run out for about an hour and when I returned - they had arrived and already started working. Unfortunately what they were doing, was not what I had wanted. After a brief discussion with the workers, they called the office and without any push back agreed to redo the job including a new gutter, because they had cut the old one in the wrong place. They did good work. They billed me by mail at the agreed upon price. So no problems there.

As far as other workers, There's a handyman that I rely on for all jobs because he is honest and does quality work. His name is Phillip and you can reach him at 502-296-6919. He is a licensed electrician, but also does just about anything else you need. If he can't do it, he'll refer someone who can. I check with him first and have been well satisfied. He is pretty busy and you may have to wait a bit, but call him and see. He's has my recommendation.

Recently one of my A/C units stopped working. Phillip came out and checked it out for me but couldn't figure out the problem. He didn't charge me anything and recommended an A/C guy who was able to identify the problem and fix it for under $100. In a case like that, I would have been wide open to fraud since I don't know anything about A/C. I am even reluctant to take up these low cost "inspect your furnace" type offers because of what the tech might do during the inspection. So once you find a trustworthy person, you want to stay with them. Good luck.

Since we have moved back to Louisville, we have had a number of problems with this house's HAC. My mother and in-laws recommended All-Hours Heating. Mike and sons are honest, friendly, fast, fair. I would recommend them in a second.

For heating & air conditioning, I always use Knight Heating & Air. They do a great job and are reasonably priced. They can be reached at (502) 634-4206‎.

Totally agree with the Middletown Roofing recommendation. We've used them for several siding/roofing related problems and they've been great.

We're getting some interior painting done next week. We're working with Whitehouse. They are SUPERB. They're not inexpensive, though. We also considered Philip Patterson Painting. I know a guy in the paint business and he raves about Philip Patterson.

Luckily we haven't had to deal with HVAC issues yet, so can't help you there.
