Yes, I lived off Valley Station Rd near Stuart Middle School. Arthurs Ice Cream for Otto Drugs for candy and video games, Convenient Food Mart for Slush Puppies and Druthers for hamburgers were all a bike ride away in mid 80s.

I don't know if you're the oldest member (I left Louisville 53 years ago, after graduating from St X), but us old dudes gotta stick together anyway - the memories these posts bring back...

Chillldrens Pal-ace! A super toy store and whole lot more!
Wasn't that the jingle? haha
Anyway, it was THE toy store of toy stores, until Toys R Us came along, and everybody became a Toys R Us kid.
But I always remember going into Childrens Palace and you had to wind your way around the check outs and the furthest isle to the right side of the store was floor to near-ceiling shelves of board and other types of games. I can still remember how awesome it seemed. then there was all the Barbie stuff---probably millions of Barbie's and related gear.....boy was I enamoured!
That's when Atari was really big too--the clunky little black cartidges and the huge Atari base with the joystick with the one red button on the base? When Cabbage Patch dolls hit, you couldn't get within a mile of the place. We were there for 2 hours, and you were limited to 2 dolls per person, because they just couldn't keep them in stock; we're talking fights and riots over the last of the dolls. At that point nobody cared what doll they got as long as it was a CP doll.
I still have my vast collection at my moms.......and they still smell like baby powder......
Service Merchandise was awesome too......it was THE place to work over Christmas because you got a great discount and they had great stuff. I was never fortunate enough to snag a job there, always waited to long to apply......

Couple more memories... There used to be a gas station that sold BBQ tacos on Old 3rd St Rd. As disgusting as that sounds, they were awesome! Cheap too on a teens salary. I also remember eating at Burger Chef on Valley Station rd, across from Valley School.
The Dixie Manor laundromat was where I played my first arcade game. Space Invaders when it came out in 1978.
An earlier memory was that cartoon machine at Bacons. You could pop in a quarter and watch a couple Woody Woodpecker cartoons while your mom shopped. I haven't seen one of those in about 30 years.
