Default Where do poor artists go for cheap rents and a nice vibe in Louisville?

Hello,

I'm a New Yorker considering a relocation to Louisville.
The slower pace, lower cost of living and more trees and grass appeal to me.

In which neighborhoods do poor artists, liberals, new agers, and bohemian types settle for cheap rents and a good vibe? Are there any historical areas close to downtown that are affordable as far as rents?

Thanks!

Old Louisville is probably where you want to be looking. My boyfriend owns a 100+ year old, 6-bedroom, Victorian home that we live in and we rent some of the rooms to people who need low rent housing. A lot of the houses in this area are split up into apartments, too. It's a really convenient location because it's basically downtown and it's less than 10 minutes to the Highlands which is a cool hang out place.

I would look on Craigslist Louisville for places to rent. Another good thing about renting in Old Louisville is that you most likely won't have to sign a lease or anything like that.

Break out your map and get ready. Anywhere east of 9th street and inside the I-264 loop is fair game. of course, the highlights are downtown, Old Louisville, Butchertown, Clifton, Crescent Hill, and the Highlands. I agree, you sound like a good fit for Old Louisville, the nation's largest historic Victorian housing district. There are a few sketch streets in that region, but none too bad, and there also many high and upscale type areas. Definitely drive up and down all the streets that intersect with Frankfort Avenue and Bardstown Road. Search my posts for info on bohemian and indie type stuff. Louisville is aood city for it.

Louisville has a very strong and fast growing art community, with lots going on.
