Louisville Gangs
So how many gangs are in Louisville? And where are they at?
I know of either these gangs or cliques in these areas:
Cecil and Greenwood
Victory Park Crips
Doom Squad
The Taliban
Badd Newz
Also heard of Market Street Crips, and groups around Shepherd Square and CDP areas, which supposedly representing Bloods. Also heard of "Portland Original Gangsters" and some gangs in Newburg. What's the relation of these gangs?
I gather that Doom Squad is cool with VPC, and the Taliban seems to be cool with BNC and CNG. I don't know much about MSC or CDP or SSq...someone claims there is MS-13 around, but I haven't heard anything else about that...
If someone wants to explain this, it would be helpful...I moved here last year, so I don't know alot about it yet.
There might be no one on here that even knows the answer to this! Hopefully there is though...

Victory park crips changed names to Evil Victory Hustlers but they are still hanging out in victory park with the taliban and doom squad. Vatos Locos a Mexican gang hang out on and around Preston Highway. Portland Original Gangsters of course hang out in Portland but i wouldn't know the exact street. market street crips are around market street. Shepard Square Projects is 100% bloods. Their is also bloods on Westport road but i havnt seen much of them. Their is a crip gang in the douglass hills apartment complex. Badd Newz gang hangs around 26th street and 36th street. ms-13 is suppose to be on Preston Highway and shelbyville road. Just about all of downtown is blood turf i havnt really seen another gang besides the bloods downtown and they are not on just one certain street they are all over downtown. Most crip gangs are in the middle of the west end while bloods are around them in the farther west end areas around portland and west downtown/east downtown. Shivley is a mostly crips but their is a few blood sets in east Shivley. I have heard of crips around poplar level but i have never seen any their. Newburg has 1 or 2 crip sets and their is a few other gangs their but i have not heard any names of any or seen them. Gangs around the old clarksdale housing projects are bloods. Gangsta Disciples are supose to be in louisville but havnt seen much of them
As longs as you arnt involved in gangs or drugs they shouldn't bother you i have not heard of people getting shot for wearing the wrong colors, but you should still use common sense when driving around in the west end (like not wearing a red/blue bandanna)

I assume you have lived in Louisville a while to know this?
Are these "gangs" organized, or is just mainly high schoolers who are in a certain group? I don't really consider Louisville to have a gang problem like LA or Chicago, or even places like St. Louis or Memphis, although it could get alot worse pretty quickly if no one does anything about it. I have seen videos on MySpace of the Badd Newz gang and the Doom Squad. Of course, they were on the videos dissin' each other. It was all high school aged kids it looked like to me, but of course, that does not mean they are the only members.
Do you know anything about the origin of these groups? They are claiming Blood and Crip, but did they just start claiming without being put on the game by a real Blood or Crip? You probably know that most West Coast gangs do not consider what is going on in our area or the East coast as real gangbangin'...they say they are claiming gangs that they have nothing to do with. I am definitely not saying you do not know about all these different gangs above, but it is hard for me to believe that there is not way more crime and gang-related activity in Louisville if there are that many real gangs.
I ask this partly because I am going to be volunteering with a gang-prevention program in Louisville in the next month or so. I am trying to get a handle on what is going on in Louisville. We are going to be working with kids in the 40210, 40211 and 40212 area of Louisville. Obviously, that includes all of Victory Park area, as well as the area of Badd Newz, and Cecil and Greenwood.
I have driven around those zip code areas, and I have definitely been stared at when I was around 22nd and Greenwood. I really am curious as to what would happened if someone got out and actually tried to talk to these people. What do you suppose would go down if someone got out at Victory Park and began trying to establish some sort of relationship with these youth and young adults who involved in these gangs?
Thanks for the info so far!

The gang problem here is not nearly as bad as LA or Chicago. I would say their is a lot of youth gangs here that try to imitate gangs like the Crips and Bloods on the west coast but their is also a lot of gangs with older members in them that i would consider very organized. As far as gang related crime goes most goes unreported if a gang member shoots at another gang member they are not gonna call the police and if nobody else hears it like neighbors then it will go unreported and it will be like it never happened. I think their is a lot of gang related crime and activity in Louisville you could ask any cop and they will tell you the something about Louisville's gang problem. If you go out of your car and tried talking to the youth i personally would not try this but it doesn't mean they will pull a gun or knife on you.
Most youths in gangs want to get recognized by other people so if you went out and were talking to young kids around 14-15 i wouldn't think they would do anything but they could so if you were gonna do this i wouldn't go along. If your gonna find people to talk to on the streets i would bring a friend along.

I am sure that the news does not reports alot of the activity that is gang-related. Whenever there is a homicide, they hardly ever say whether something could be gang-related. When Branden Trumbo was shot earlier this year, they admitted that it could be, but that is only because a family made the connection in an interview on the news. Almost 50% of the homicides last year were 16-25 year olds. I am sure some of that is at least loosely gang-related.
What part of Louisville do you live in and how long, if you don't mind me asking?

So can I ask how you know of all these gangs? I have talked to people who lived in Louisville their entire live and had never heard of Victory Park or California Park or Shepherd Square or Clarksdale projects. It blows my mind that you can be that oblivious to what is going on in your own city, but obviously, most people don't care...

If you have never heard of any gangs in Louisville maybe you should start watching the news? and how do you know if you see somebody if they are a gang member or not? just because they are in a gang doesn't mean they are gonna be wearing 100% red or 100% blue or even wearing bandannas.
