Special Needs Childcare-Autism
Does anyone have any recommendations for finding special needs childcare for a school-aged child in Louisville. Autism spectrum.

Carriage House is for preschool children, not school aged.

I am thinking about moving to louisville ky and i have a 15 yr old son with special needs. Can anyone recomend a school and a nice area to live in? I am a single mom and just want to make sure if I move that my son will feel safe and welcome in the school system.

My son has Autism, cerebal palsey, developmental delays, and microcephaley. He can walk and understand what you are saying but he can only say a few words that you can understand. I was also wodering how accepting are the kids at the schools for kids like him? We live in Elkhart Indiana right now and the school that he goes to is really good and i dont worry about kids being mean to him. Can you tell me anything about Jeffersonville Indiana because I was also thinking about moving there because I can transfer his disability services for respite care because it is still Indiana. I would appreciate any info that you can provide.

I actually have high functioning autism myself. I've generally found the Louisville area to be pretty tolerate of different types of people, most people I've met are pretty laid back and don't really give you problems even if they think you're a bit eccentric.
Unfortunately other parts of the state (really other than parts of Lexington & NKY) have a really backwards way of looking at things, especially towards men. When I was 6 years old I visited some relatives in Eastern KY and their kids actually took one of my books and ripped it up "because only girls read books." Some people out there think any guy that doesn't hunt, reads books, and isn't married by age 25 must be gay.

My understanding is that Floyd County has better schools than Clark County, the Floyds Knobs area is supposed to be especially nice.
