Shively's population growing for first time in 40 years!
The 2007 estimate of 16,089 is nearly a 1,000 net increase over Shively's population of 15,157 in 2000. This marks the first time in 40 years that Shively's population has been consistantly growing
1970 19,223
1980 16,645
1990 15,535
2000 15,157
2007 Est. 16,089

two sources
Here are two sources but don't know if census was using these.
courier-journal.com | Alex Davis - Your Money | The Courier-Journal
and...
Kentucky State Data Center
The problem with census' facts is that it was in 2000 when Shivley turned the corner on their population drop. After 2000, the numbers are estimates (to include 2007).

2003-15,268
2004-15,248 (lost 20)
2005-15,234 (lost 14)

It is just an estimate, but I'd doubt they'd overestimate by 1,000. Even a gain of 1 person would be the first growth in Shively since the 70 census. I can't say I've ever seen any abandoned houses in Shively, something the certainly can't be said for the West End
