While it is true that 6 Blacks and 1 Hispanic dead it is all on one side of town. There are as many Blacks in the Newburg/ Buechel/ Fern Creek area as the West End and there has been maybe 3 murders there this year. The apartment complex I lived at in Lyndon was probably 30% Hispanic and 10% Black and it was as safe and quite as could be.

The bottom line is the poorest people live on the poorest land whether it is in West Louisville or West India. The West End is the most flood prone and has 2 coal fired power plants and a large rubber factory filling its air with toxins - it is clearly the worst place to live in the entire Metro area and probably always will be.
The Highlands and Crescent Hill will always be flood free and has less pollution problems, as the largest particles stay at the lowest altitide - I doubt those areas will ever become low income

Compared to Washington DC and the subrubs, Louisville has a relatively minor gang problem. We here in DC have had multiple weekends where 7 or more people have gotten killed in different sections (even non-ghetto ones) of DC proper this year. DC also has a very large MS-13 presence, which i dont hear a lot about in everything i read about in Louisville.
Like ya'll i hope this does not become the norm for my future home of Louisville.

Considering that E of 7th, W of Shelby St, N of I-264 is hugely commercial/industrial/educational (UofL / Sullivan) and downtown, it would appear that 10 is a higher ratio than the western area. Censusdata, what's the population ratios?
Louisville is fairly safe for cities of similar size. Probably about average. Plus, these rates quoted don't apply to people who don't gang-bang, don't buy crack, and don't hang out at inner-city clubs. The vast majority of times a murder victim was doing something they shouldn't have been doing. While it doesn't excuse the murder, it is reassuring to those of us who don't partake in high-risk behaviors.
