Hey y'all. In the last hour, my house has been thudding pretty regularly; I expect it's from testing out at Fort Knox. I'm used to the sound it normally makes, sort of like thunder in the distance- but this was different, much more of a 'boom' factor; my house literally shook from the impacts. Has anyone else out here noticed it, or am I just being oversensitive after last year's earthquakes? Anybody have any idea what kind of ordinance they might be using out there today? I'm really surprised just how STRONG these thuds were.

It may be the zoo if it was around 11:30 or 3:30. They are doing some blasting for constuction.

Heh, one of my special memories of living in Valley Station was the artillery at Knox when they were having manouvers.

I felt and heard it also. Isn't the Armor Division moving out? I guess that will be the end of the boom boom years.

When there is a large amount of clouds combined with high humidity (drizzling), the noise travels farther when they are shooting on Fort Knox. It seems like every two or so weeks that they are shooting. I can't imagine the blasting for the zoo construction would be felt much beyond a 1/2 mile from the zoo. I'm sure it's preferred they blast rock more frequently and in smaller amounts than have one or two big blasts.

I thought the person who posted was near the airport which isn't too awful far from the zoo.

s/he doesn't say. If so, any shakes and rumbles would be aircraft vs. the zoo blasts.

They were actually two large blasts a day because they are actually blasting rock inside a hill. Some of the blasts were so strong it would vibrate doors at the front of the zoo! I do believe it is over now. I have to say though, I thought that yelling "fire in the hole" was only in the movies lol
