Ormsbry Ave?
I am about to go check out a house on ORMSBY AVE, it has been a few years since I have been their and well I always lived on Central, so I am not to sure if this is a good neighborhood or not. I know that the house is located near Dixie Hwy, 17th street.
I am just trying to figure out if it is safe or not? In relevance to Louisville, not other cities.

Ormbsy ave is fairly safe, although can be sketchy at night, between 7th and brook streets. Ormbsy Ave west of 7th street can get fairly dangerous, and I would avoid the area especially at night. So yes, west ormbsy is dangerous by Louisville standards, but as far as big city coastal standards, it is honestly probably not too bad, although it is certainly classified as "ghetto" by any definition of the word.
Incidentally, there is also an ormsby out in the burbs that is very safe.

It's not too bad if you make preparations...

It isn't that bad. West and north of that location (from 17th st) get noticeablly rougher. You need to drive down Hill street - starting from 5th street so you can see how the neighborhood changes enroute to the house you're interested in.
