You're fine on East Market. West Market past 9th Street is where it can get dicey. But you're a long way from there.

Hmmmm...that can be a sketchy area at night. Just head down Bardstown Road or Baxter Avenue, not far from there at all, and most any place with in 4-5 blocks of these north-south roads you will find to be very safe and reasonably priced.

Wrong. Seeing as you don't live in Louisville, I am afraid you are unaware. East Market is nice. Lots of art galleries and boutiques but it is pretty dead at night unless there is an art gallery hop on the first friday of the month. There are upscale condos nearby and gentrifying, mixed income Liberty Green. Currently, there isn't as much open at night on East Market as there used to be. La Bodega, the grocery, closes around 8, Artemesia closes around 10, and ditto Mayan Cafe.
